Yosemite and Logic Pro X

Hello.

Since there does not seem to be a thread regarding Logic Pro X on Yosemite yet, I thought I might as well get the ball rolling.

For the early adopters, how are you experiencing LPX on Yosemite? Good or bad so far?

For those who have not yet adopted Yosemite but are thinking about doing so, here is some really good advice from community participant "The Art of Sound": Latest OS X & Logic Pro Compatibility Information

Thanks for the contribution if any.

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Logic Pro X.0.7

MATE!

Who are you? I'll tell you who you are. You're The Man!

I posted in this thread because you seem to have the answer for everything and I was hoping you would have my answer. You did.

I downloaded the latest drivers and restarted. Bam! Back in the game.

I never considered drivers. Mac's are the type of thing I never need to load drivers for. I suppose it IS a very old keyboard.

I am so grateful. You have made a big difference to my life. Thank you

Kingsley

I had issues with Yosemite and logic pro x.

it crashed very often. after restarting i had to choose te auto-saved version of my current project but often the project got ****** up with changes of plugin and sound,no sound at all...

Now i just got my new macbook since last week. Macbook pro 13", 3,1GHz intel core I7,16gb 1867MHz DDR3, solid state drive 512gb..

A nice machine would You think...

And it is...but the logic problems are still present.

I didn't put a backup from my older system on the new mac,i started clean.

So a error or bug in the backup can't be the problem.

apple is cocky and lazy cause the don't really care there costumers buy a 2467euro macbook and a 200 euro software that works like a outdated PC..

I really need apple to at least reply on this in a proper manner and fix it.

Stop ******** on your brand and take back Steve Jobs perspective on things..

I buy apple cause it's good,stable..or at least it was... if it only remains to be expensive, they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine in the future..

Mac on ebay and everything else i own from Apple out the window!

These kind of things are an outrage!

okay,thank You.

My sincere apologies for my rude post from earlier.. I needed to ventilate..

I know this is a users forum and perhaps i expressed myself a bit wrong concerning Apple.

I'm aware they never reply on posts here, but actually...they don't at all. (or maybe i never used the right channel to reach them...)

any way...thanks for the heads up and if anyone experiences the same problems, please let me know.

Hey, no problem... not sure about Apple being cocky or not, they've always been "follow our lead or not". They're definitely not courting the pro-market like they used to. A lot of the pro-software is released in beta form (my opinion) and the user base is now the test team. You can't really do that at the pro level. Apple has been updating the OS at such a quick pace that applications, especially complex "pro" applications like Logic don't have enough time to be thoroughly vetted. Although Garageband does seem to be suffering as bad as Logic.

Do use the link for the feedback form, they need to hear from users like yourself.

For what it is worth..

Since the release of Yosemite I have been testing out LPX with OS X and I have to say the combo of 10.1.1 and OS X 10.10.3 has been pretty well, rock solid and stable for me... The performance hits of the newer OS X versions are still there but Logic's overall stability has been almost as good as my 10.6.8 and LP9.1.5 combo that i use for my main working rig...

So, having said that... what crashes/instability/odd behaviors I have witnessed or analyzed on behalf of others, have all... with very few exceptions, been tracked down to the following causes..

1) Incompatible (with current OS X version) or poorly written external hardware drivers... Digidesign/Avid for example

2) 3rd party plugin issues.... (Update or remove badly behaving plugins)

3) Corrupted or incomplete OS X updates... (Reinstallation on wiped system drive, from scratch of latest OS X and Logic typically fixes this..)

4) Use of conflicting or misbehaving software on Mac.... (Audio Routers/CleanMyMac/MacKeeper are examples.. but there are many more...)

5) Certain versions of Pro Tools and its drivers installed on same Mac (See #1 )

6) Use of Plugins wrappers such as incorrectly configured Novation Automap for example... (See #3 too)

7) Installation and use of 'cracked' software.... be it plugins/DAWs or even LPX itself...

8) Use of Hackintoshs.....

9) Simply User Error.... Setups/Preferences not being properly configured being the most common...

10) Actual Mac hardware issues like a faulty memory chip or Graphic card / driver related issues or SSD/Hybrid chip/disk error issues ..... More common than you would think...

LPX does still have some bugs for sure.. but very few are actual 'showstoppers' for most people these days... There are still some missing features from LP9 that i do miss..... and there are a couple of quirks that you have to develop workarounds for but overall, it's not too bad if you have the right Mac/3rd party hardware.

For example, I have just finished work on a 47 minute score for a Cartoon TV show... that used 80+ mixed audio/Software instrument tracks... in LPX and I had no instability or crash issues at all throughout the three weeks it took to work on this project. (Note: I didn't work with Video... just storyboards 🙂 .)

Other's experiences may well be different but thats how things stand from my viewpoint....
