Yosemite and Logic Pro X

Ok, I've installed OSX 10.10.2 and so far I'm VERY pleased to say that the CPU melt down I had with 10.10.0 running Logic X on my mid 2011 iMac is no more.

After running various projects to give it a good test I've done a restart of my iMac and everything still seems good.

I remember that reinstalling 10.10.0 fixed the issue...until I restarted my iMac after which it was all bad again CPU wise.

I'm running Logic 10.1.

I will report back in another day or so.

Yes, I think the Yosemite performance 'fix' I posted earlier in this thread.. must have been properly implemented in 10.10.2 because the high CPU/Poor performance issues do seem to have been drastically reduced if not eliminated all together.

I'm still finding LPX 10.1 a little unstable at times.. Certain Logic plugins including but not limited to the Bass Amp Designer for example..are quite susceptible to crashing under certain circumstances..and some 3rd party plugins.. like Kontakt again, in certain situations,sometimes trigger a crash on both of my testbed systems at least, upon exiting LPX itself... but I'm pretty sure these instabilities will be fixed in a forthcoming Logic 10.1.1 (or whatever they choose to name it) update... as typically that's what has happened in the past... along with 3rd party plugin updates like those u-he issued a few days ago... to resolve the 'Missing Gui' issue some of their plugins have suffered from under 10.1 due to the fact that 10.1 no longer supports the legacy AU SDKs.

All in all, however, I am quite pleased with the 10.1 update.... Loving the new VCA faders the most I suppose... as it makes mixing down large orchestral projects.. so easy!

Anyhow... glad you are seeing similar improvements over previous OS X Yosemite & LPX combinations...

I've not had a crash yet in 10.1, touch wood 🙂

I don't have Kontakt and I can't remember the last time I used Bass Amp Designer.

I do have a lot of third party plugins (641 AU plugins were scanned the first time I used Logic with Yosemite) and that includes a lot of iLok plugins.

I Made the jump from Mountain Lion to Yosemite 10.2. So far all but one thing about the move is positive. Performance, if anything, is better and all but one plugin has worked flawlessly.

However guitar Rig 5.1 fails validation. Has anyone else had the same problem? Any ideas? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Guitar Rig but to no avail.

You probably need to update to GR v5.2 via NI's Service Center....

It's running fine here with LPX 10.1 and OS X 10.10.2

Sorry about how long it's taken me to get back on topic. Today I downloaded the latest 5.2 update, but once again it's doing the same thing. Oddly enough on the Macbook Pro (also with Logic 10.1 and Yosemite) GR works perfectly. However, on the iMac scanning the plugin locks up and I have to do a force quit. When I go to the plugins manager it shows that it has failed authorization. It seems that the problem is specific to the iMac. All other plugins on the iMac work perfectly with 10.1 and Yosemite. Any other ideas are welcome.

So what is the verdict on Yosemite + LPX at this point?

Finally got GR working (a matter of removing a file from PT 11) and all is good. So far, after several projects and many hours, I have to say that Yosemite and LPX seem to be a solid combination.

I'm having some problems especially with NI software..

Multi-midi and Maschine MK1 plugin freezes my project when I open it after a succesful session. Been dealing with this all day..

Battery (4.1.4) crashes Logic when I quit.

Some of my V-collection plugs can't get validated.

Running OSX 10.10.2 and Logic 10.1

Do you have PT on your computer? If so, look on the NI site FAQ for directions on how to remove "AvidCoreAudio.plugin". I put mine on my desktop to be put back whenever I need it. After that, everything worked fine. I too have the V-collection, but it worked fine.

I upgraded my eLicense yesterday but I'm having issues with stuff like ARP2600..

I've been LPX with Yosemite installed on a new HD in my 2009 MacPro for 2 weeks. I've done three sessions and the performance has been flawless. All UAD and waves plugins running as well if not better than LP9.

I've just bought a new (old) mac with Yosemite installed. I had problems installing PT10 and did not want to risk going to the new rental PT system considering PT11 and 12 don't run as good as 10.

So I downloaded LPX. I use to use LP back in V8. So I am back. All my old tracks (about 25 projects) are all PT10 sessions. I am not going to bother with them for now. I am just going to start all new projects for this new season of my life.

MacMini i7 Quad Core 2.3GHz, 16GB 1600MHzRAM, SSD boot, 1TB int, 3 ext HDD = 3TB Sample Library

My only issue is that my Yamaha KX8 is not triggering. This has been "bugging" me for 3 days. It is most baffling! This is a plug and play device, right? Really basic stuff. I've been fiddling around in all the MIDI preferences. LPX is not receiving any MIDI info. Even when I open EW Play in stand alone , no MIDI. I am out of options. I have not touched or changed any settings on the KX8 since my last computer and it was working fine.

I contacted the guy I bought the MM off just to see if he may have disabled something in the ASIO drivers. He said he had not.

I have checked that all the USB ports work properly.

Totally perplexed?

You may have two issues to contend with....

Firstly, did you install the latest Yamaha Midi Drivers (V1.3.2) for OS X and your keyboard?

If not do so and try them out...

But.. problem #2....

Yamaha have not released updated drivers so far that are confirmed as working with Yosemite...

So the latest ones may or may not work correctly.

Note: Are you plugging your KX8 directly into your Mac via USB?

If not and you have it plugged into the back of the Apogee, that won't work because the KX8 is not CoreMdid compatible.. and requires drivers installed on your Mac to use the USB connection...

Alternate solution:

If you cannot get the KX8 to work with the older drivers and yosemite,

Buy a good quality midi interface... (not one of the cheap midi to USB cord types) that works well with Yosemite..

Any of the iConnect range will work perfectly. I use an iConnectMidi 2+ which allows midi to midi connections but also the use of Audio/midi to and from an iPad to LPX

and then connect that to your Mac and then connect the KX8 to the midi interface via its Midi ports.... rather that try and use USB from the KX8 to your Mac.. (and therefore no need for drivers either) and it should work without issue.

To test if midi is being received from the KX8 to your Mac, install and running the following free app on your Mac....
