Smart Mail box not working Yosemite

Once again I am faced with a problem that has been plaguing me for 2 OS's now.

My Mail Smart Mailbox for Unread doesn't work.

I get mail in the other mailboxes, but it doesn't divert them to the Unread for quick collation of new mail.

Also, there is no badge indicator on the Mail App in the dock of unread emails.

Am I missing something, is there a fix?

I am assuming this will have the same resolution as my High Sierra issue.

Simply look up MDS in activity viewer and force quit.

Restart Mail, the Smart Nailbox works properly again.

+1 with the same Problem:

Tried all hints found here to no avail.

I skipped Mavericks because of the smart boxes not working, neither on MacBook Air nor on iMac. Now I'd like to update to Yosemite, but if the problem can't be solved, I will stick with Mountain Lion.

Some details:

Smart mailboxes work for the (local) admin (and probably would for all local users), but don't for Open Directory Users (my server is on Snow Leo).

They don't show any message at all.

Rebuilding 'envelope'-stuff took more than 2 hours for about 10'000 Mails of 5 mail accounts. Activity monitor showed Mail as hanging during that time and I was nearly about to force quit Mail.

And a new issue arose today!!

Two points:

The issue is that I am receiving messages on my iPad from my @icloud.com account, but not on my iMac. Don't understand why. Some come through, some don't!

Second issue, and a recurring one with Safari as well, is it doesn't recognise iCloud using @mac.com.

So I thought I would change this once and for all, to make it @icloud.com as my primary.

There is no way I could figure out, on how to get this achieved.

Any clues?

My Smart Mailboxes would not work either. I have 4 Gmail Accounts, 3 Pop3 email accounts and 2 Exchange Server email accounts on my iMac with Yosemite. All worked fine before I upgraded.

Before I tried any of what I thought were more advanced changes in some of these threads above, I found this solution elsewhere on the web. Once I did this, all my Smart Mailboxes came back to normal.

1: On the Email Menu, Go to Mail Preferences > then click on the Advanced Tab.

2: For every email account listed, uncheck the first checkbox titled: "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"

3: Close Email, then Open Email again.

After this change all Smart Mailboxes were normal.

It also fixed my Spotlight email search that was not working as well. After I re-indexed my HD, email search still would find no results. Doing the 3 steps above now results in normal email searches.

Hope this helps some others with this issue.

That didn't work for me. I have created some tests that seem to point to this being a bug. I have created several raw startup disks both on hard drives and in virtual machines. The disks ONLY have new, clean installs of the OS and one IMAP mail account set up (the same one in all the installs). In all of the Yosemite installs, there are messages missing from a smart mailbox with a keyword criteria. In all of the Mavericks installs, all of the messages meeting the same keyword criteria appear (more than twice as many messages appear in the Mavericks mailbox than the Yosemite one). All of the Mavericks installs look the same with the same number of messages found in the smart mailbox. All of the Yosemite installs look the same and have the same missing messages. I have tried reindexing the whole drive as well as the various other fixes that have been offered on forums and the web. Nothing has caused Yosemite to not keep missing the same messages that Mavericks is finding.

Interesting development this morning. Whether it helps solve anything.

But after my rebuild yesterday, I noticed on my internet activity indicator, a lot of download activity. I checked and it was via Mail from a server called: p06-map.mail.me.com.

It was active for over 20 mins, and occasionally my Mail activity indicator said 'Incoming Messages: 63 of 64' and other numbers.

But nothing showed up in the folder.
