Slow shutdown on Yosemite

Hi

I have the exact same problem, the only difference is that I have Parallels 9 installed and do not want to uninstall it. Is there any way to fix my 30 seconds shutdown time without removing Parallels?

Found this post on Reddit. Did an amazing job. So Parallel files not only dwell in LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemon folders. They can reside in shared folders and an array of other locations. Here is a link with an apple script by the Parallel makers to purge the whole Mac of parallels. My macbook pro 2010 with an upgraded SSD took 2.5 mins to shutdown now its only in mere seconds.

Just updated to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro Mid 2014 13" and now it takes 3minutes to shutdown, any ideas ????

I had the same problem. deleted old parallels now no problems

I concur with the other people that have replied to this post. I have a MacBook Air and installed Yosemite yesterday and immediately noticed my shut-down was taking almost 3 minutes. Rather than hunt and peck through the library files for odd bits of parallels left behind to delete, I elected to download (and pay) for the full version of CleanMyMac2. I used that application to uninstall Parallels and then allowed CleanMyMac2 to work its magic on the rest of the machine. Result, problem solved ! The machine shuts down perfectly and I am having no other issues related to the OS X Yosemite upgrade.

In my case, in the Library subfolders (thank you Jean-Louis for directing me to the right place) there were also some remains of another uninstalled software, not just Parallels. Thanks to your advice I've been able to locate and delete all the junk. Now my Mac (MacBook Pro 2011), shuts down in a flash!

I have parallels installed because I have to use it and I'm not sure it it is causing the problem but my Mac pro 2009 runs slow after it wakes up then I try to shut down or restart and it takes sometimes up to 30 mins to an hour. I did a clean install on a SSD with 32gb of RAM. It is an 8 core so it shouldn't have an issue there but after it finally reboots or shuts down it runs fine. Is Parallels causing these issues?

I have a Mac Book Pro and it does not seem to have this issue and I am running i7, 16gRam, SSD with Parallels with no issues. I ran the beta just to make sure everything worked fine and with no issues. As I am typing this response it is lagging after a reboot about 4 hours ago. I guess I have to reboot my Mac Pro every 4 hours or so. The shut down is 15-20 mins now. Strange - guess i'll have to surf the net to see if others are having this issue.

Don't get confused by the fact that some of us are talking about Parallels. Parallels is NOT the problem.

Problems arise when some "orphaned" files remain in the above mentioned folders, after removing an application... in my case, for example, there were some files left from Parallels and other files from another application: I had to remove all of them to solve, not just those related to Parallels.

In my case, I had a fully functional installation of Parallels, still on my system, that was an earlier version and no longer supported or functional under Yosemite. The only files I needed to move out of the way were the Parallels files in /Library/LaunchDaemons and /Library/LaunchAgents .

This issue was driving me bananas. On my Mid-2012 MBP with SSD, I was seeing shutdown times in the 5 minute range and an occasional grey screen on startup that a problem occurred and that I should wait. I cleaned my computer to no avail then I searched in my library and came across the leftover .plist files for Parallels, so I re-downloaded Parallels 7 and mounted the DMG and clicked the uninstall option within the DMG. And voila, Parallels scrubbed its leftover files and now my computer shuts down in a few seconds and I haven't noticed the grey error screen on startup.

+1 Sorry for the stupid misquote/reply mechanism. This site absolutely blows monkey turds. (It is slower than molasses and has long outstanding login anomalies.)

I use parallels and have this issue. I found that I had installed and then uninstalled a Verizon USB hotspot driver. The uninstall left a plist in the aforementioned folders. I deleted the plist, and shutdown times are back to normal.

For anyone having issues, scan through the plist files and if you see one that is a program that you uninstalled, remove the plist and see if that helps.

That did the trick. The install, found all old versions and removed everything cleanly. Then I removed the Parallels install and it went from 2.3 minutes to shutdown to 5 seconds. Super. Thank you so much!
