Yosemite, poor performance with Apple TV

I usually use my apple tv as second display over wifi with my MacBookAir6,2 13'' 8GB RAM but today i installed Yosemite from App Store and i can't use my apple tv as a second display because the video streaming is really slow and is really annoying work with that performance, i tried to use mirror display over airplay too but i had the same issue. it a problem with Yosemite ?? when will apple repair that ??. I also tried to use the P2P airplay without my wifi access point only with my mac and apple tv but its the same issue.

😠😢 I really miss when apple worked with almost any problems.

Hey

I just purchased an apple tv today and straight out of the box was experiencing the same issues as you. Airplay from my iphone 6 works perfectly. I actually have a macbook pro from mid 2010 (very old I know) that is running Yosemite 10.10.4. It may be a shot in the dark if your apple tv is connected to your network through wifi, try to connect it directly to your router with an ethernet cable. I spent hours today trying to stream even music from my itunes library to the tv and as soon as I plugged in the ethernet cable and configured the connection on the apple tv to the ethernet port everything started to work perfectly, including streaming 1080p video from an external hard drive connected to the macbook pro.

Hope that helps

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro, ATV 3, everything with updated OS, BlueTooth off, all settings correct, and I can't get ATV to stream cleanly using AirPlay. ATV plays everything else just fine.

57,000 views in this thread, which is just one of several detailing this same problem over the past three years. Seems like if Apple really wants ATV to be a big part of their future, they'd find a way to fix the one we're using right now.

My firewall on the mac was already off - but turned it on and off - did help and its working

There is another known issue was - The Wireless router security encryption - WEP2 does not work , if you switch to WPA - Personal it will start working

I have 2 router in the house - so until i found this firewall issue - I change one of my router to WPA - personal and it works,

Thanks very much indeed, Papakaliati. Turning off Bluetooth solved the problem of drastic wifi internet speed slowdown when Apple TV is used as a second display over Airplay. Unfortunately, this seems to be an issue Apple is having and has not been addressed with latest software or hardware updates. (I am using late 2015 Macbook Pro, running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 and Apple TV 4th Gen using latest software update.) Turning off Bluetooth seems to be an effective, if inconvenient, temporary solution until Apple addresses the issue. Thanks again. -Dean.

I was having this problem, too. The solution that worked for me was to force both my Apple TV and my MacBook Pro to use the 5 GHz wifi network, not the 2.4 GHz network. To do this on my setup, I did the following:

1. Open Airport Utility. Under Wireless > Wireless Options, I checked the option to give the 5 GHz band a new name.

2. On my MacBook Pro, I selected the new network (e.g., Melissa 5 GHz), then in Network Preferences, I selected "Advanced" under WiFi, then under the WiFi tab, I selected my old network name (e.g., Melissa) and hit the minus button. This makes the MacBook Pro forget how to log on to the full network, forcing it to stay on the 5 GHz band.

3. On my Apple TV, I used the Settings panel to switch to the new 5 GHz network.

Note that I was also able to solve this problem by turning off bluetooth, but that wasn't an ideal solution.
