Several other users have the same issue. Stick to the 2.4GHz connection for the time being.
I'm using a 2014 MacBook Pro 13", the latest 2GB Time Capsule, and I updated to Yosemite on day one. I have an external hard drive connected via USB to the Time Capsule, with my iTunes music library. My MBP never has any problems connecting to the TC in order to access the iTunes library.
There are no problems with WiFi on any of my devices, and my 2014 MBP can connect with an older MacBook on the same WiFi network.
But I'm having issues with the 2014 MPB being able to find the Time Capsule for Time Machine backups. Time Machine backups are sporadic, because the MBP can't always find the TC. TC appears in my Finder, but the MBP is not always able to connect to it. Airport Utility sometimes shows TC with no problems, other times shows it with an alert.
I've had one phone call with Apple Support and the fix seemed to work, but only for a few hours. My current workaround is to check Time Machine every day or two to see if there's a recent back-up. If not, I open Airport Utility, then attempt to connect via the Finder, and then open Time Machine preferences. Sometimes it helps if I begin playing a song in iTunes, which accesses the external hard drive connected to the TC. So far, this has been enough to get the MPB to "see" the TC and the Time Machine backup can proceed. It's a hassle, but not as much of a hassle as doing a complete hardware reset/restart each time.
I'm assuming it's a problem with Yosemite that will be fixed with an update. If the problem persists or gets worse, I'll try Apple Support again.
This worked for me. My internet and Time Capsule were working, but my AirPort Express and Time Capsule were not showing up in the Airport Utility. A total shut down of my MacBook Pro including the Time Capsule, Airport Express and cable modem did the trick - thanks!✅
It would be nice if Apple let us know about these issues...
I have precisely the exact same problem as visiondr:
Ever since updating to Yosemite, my iMac (late 2009) has been losing its internet connection. When the computer is restarted or I log in to the computer, the internet connection is fine. But a few minutes later - say, less than 10 minutes - the connection gets dropped and stays dropped. Our internet is distributed from a cable modem to an AirPort Time Capsule base station. Other devices in the household (two iPhones and an iPad and a MacBook Pro [running Mavericks]) stay on the internet just fine.
I posted in the Yosemite forums and nobody has responded. (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6627542)
It's a bit of a relief knowing i'm not the only one with this issue. Did you ever find a solution? I'm going to try and reset the pram first, then try some of the firewall/keychain suggestions.
I heard pre-release 10.10.1 fixed this annoying issue.

Is that available through some kind of public beta program, or do you have to be a developer to get that? I have tried all the solutions mentioned in this thread, and none of them have fixed the issue.
Google to find the way to register yourself as a Beta tester then you will be able to receive pre-release feed in your App Store, it is just one Terminal command.
I don't try beta release on my laptop so I can't confirm if it fixed the issue.
I installed Yosemite on october 18, and no back ups since.
When I go to finder I no longer see the airport. I have a two TB omega hard drive attached and Yosemite can see it ok and it can accept the back ups.
I've been using both drives to back up my system.
My Wife's MacBook Pro 15", MBP15 is still backing up to it ok, but not my MacBook Pro 17", MBP17. Both Mac's are early 2011 models.
I'm suing CAT6 from my router to each computer and to the airport devise.
I connect to a 1200AC/router from the cable modem, then run a CAT6 cable to my MBP17 and to a 1750AC/router. Then from the second router a CAT6 cable goes to the MBP15 and to the time machine.
I've taken a picture of the time machine and showed it to my MBP17 but it didn't help.
The worse part of this problem is when I go to my office and start to work on my MBP17 I get a very loud message "NO BACK UPS FOR x# OF DAYS!". I've tried everything I know to lower the volume to no avail. BUMBER!
Thanks in advance for any intelligent feed back.
I am with the same problem: After the Yosemite Update I can't be online with time capsule. We have 2 macbook pro, one for me and other for my wife and we have the same problem. Sometimes its working but stay with ups and downs always.
I am having a somewhat similar problem. Upgraded my 8 month old MacBook Pro to Yosemite. Since I have been paying for an online back up service I decided to purchase an Airport Time Capsule (2TB). I downloaded the Airport utility as instructed in the set up guide but the installation of the utility could not be complete as it told it was not supported by my system. I just spent $300 on the Time Capsule and am really stuck on how to proceed ....should I try to return the product and just stick with my old router?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The version of AirPort Utility that was installed by Yosemite in your Utilities folder (located inside your Applications folder) should work — no need to download anything.
Earlier versions of the Utility, such as 5.6.1, won’t generally install on Yosemite, if that’s what you’re trying to do.

Many users who upgraded to Yosemite are now having issues with Time Capsule, as evidenced pretty clearly by this thread, so you might want to keep this option open, even if you have no further problems with the initial setup.
I am having the same issue, having to restart computer multiple times per day in order to find my time capsule and shared internal and external drive connected to it. I connect fine, and then minutes or hours later, I click on it and it says it cannot connect. I go to Airport Utility and it shows no Time Capsule, even though I can backup and I can stream my iTunes library from it to my apple tv. It's extremely annoying. I have rebooted my Macbook Air more since installing Yosemite than in the 3 years prior of owning it.
Okay, so immediately after posting that last message, I tried the resetting PRAM from MacBook Air SMC and PRAM reset. I had already set the ipv6 to link local only. Now that I have rebooted, not only have I not lost the time machine disk connection in shared, but my computer name isn't showing up with (2) or (3)...(9) behind it, which was also driving me nuts. It hasn't been that long, but I think this could be a very good sign.
There is a new Yosemite software update that was made available a few days ago that is supposed to address the Time Capsule issues. My system appears to be working okay with this upgrade. Hope this helps

You better start a new thread for your own: this one is too long already, and it is not very polite to hack a thread.
