I did this as well. The gain was slight, but when downloading a large file I find the speed still drops considerably. If I disable wi fi, the speed picks up again. So it doesn't solve the problem.
I too had a Bluetooth problem causing unacceptable imternet performance after Yosemite upgrade - I have 3 paired devices - keyboard, trackpad and iPhone
I deleted just the iPhone entry and solved the slow internet problem
I deleted the iphone entry as well and at first, I it seemed the problem was solved. It returned. changing the channel on my router and deleting the iphone entry are the only things that offered slight improvement. I can at lest browse the internet to most sites, although over time the performance degrades. When that happens, or if I am downloading, I have to turn off bluetooth.
I turned Bluetooth off, And internet now working well.
It seems the culprit for many of us is a conflict between wifi and bluetooth. For those of us who need to use bluetooth (I'm using a mac mini with a bluetooth keyboard) this is a major headache. I am constantly turning bluetooth off to load a page or download something, then turning it back on to type. Not an ideal solution or workaround.
I was reading all the responses and some sounded too technical. I saw one about turning off the Bluetooth and I tried that. Safari is running like normal now. Firefox is still a little slow, but until they fix this I am just going to have to leave bluetooth off. Let's see if this fix holds.
I think there are several problems going on here, due to all the different scenarios. These issues involve Bluetooth, Bonjour, DNS, wifi, and general connectivity.
All of this started with Yosemite, which apparently was either not tested, or the testing was ignored so Apple could meet a date, customers be ******.
"It just works" is a complete and total joke. It's a lie. Apple software is now quite a bit worse than what Microsoft puts out, and Microsoft has a FAR more difficult job of things. Apple has a few different hardware configurations they support, all of their own design. Microsoft supports hundreds, and it is the one that "just works."
It's getting quite tiresome to have to deal with Apple's software not working right, from iOS 8's issues to this. It's simply not acceptable that Apple puts out these very broken releases with a total disregard to their customer base. If Microsoft had done this, there would be howls.
Loading a web page was also extremely slow for me. Speedtest on my iphone and Ipad was showing 20 Mbps whereas it was only showing 4 Mbps on my Mc Book Pro (Retina display - Yosemite).
Turning Bluetooth off was solving the issue but this was not an acceptable solution for me because I need Bluetooth to connect external devices.
I tried several solutions but the only one that solved the issue is a PRAM Reset.
The following link explains how to reset PRAM. OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRA
I hope this will also work for you
Good luck!!!!
I was having this problem, seem to happen when waking computer, once finally connected network works great.
You need to edit your network preferences to order the network selection list. Goto this support page Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later) and edit your selection list.
I also created a "HOME" location and deleted all networks except wifi. Put MB to sleep woke and safari worked great. Still I re-ordered the networks under Automatic putting wifi at top, sequence is from top down. Don't forget to click Apply. Have fun
Bluetooth is not the issue for me. I never turn on bluetooth. Surfing websites feels like I am on dial up after upgrading to Yosemite on my macbook air. *** Apple!
Just adding my voice to the mix. I'm having the same problem on my macbook pro. I tried every solution mentioned here. The only one that really works is turning off bluetooth. But that's not an option for me since I have a bluetooth mouse.
I don't understand. What kind of a company Mac is becoming? How about the quality they brag about?
I just spent $3000 on a new machine and now it is slower than my old computer. It is not fair
Same here its become very hard to do any kind of work as my internet is now so slow. How can i uninstall this. My ibook broke and now this is on my imac pro grrrrrrr right now i dont like apple very much as its costly and useless!
I'm seeing lots of complaints but no solutions. I've tried everything suggested here, including changing the channel on my router (which perhaps I should have done anyway but which shouldn't affect the performance of my computer in this way). There are two issues: wifi is dead slow unless I disable bluetooth, which is not an option as I use a bluetooth keyboard; and the computer does not reestablish a wifi connection after waking. In fact, very often my network doesn't even show up, despite all the other networks appearing just fine.
The fixes suggested in the comments above are temporary. This is maddening. I've already advised family members NOT to upgrade. I can only imagine my 85 year old father, who loves his mac mini, with these issues. Apple, are you listening?
Why do we have to come up with a solution?
Why wouldn't APPLE come up with a solution? They sure get enough of my money.
