Post iTunes Upgrade Questions like why is the icon red and other troubles...

I just upgraded (if you can call it that) to iTunes 12.0.1.26


Questions:


1. Why is my iTunes icon in my dock now red? Did Apple change it from blue to red? If so, why? Can I get the blue icon back? The red one makes me think something is wrong that I need to fix


2. What happened to the navigation side bar that showed all my play lists? Can I get it back?


3. Where did the cool cover browser go to? Can I get it back?


4. Rhetorical question: Why does Apple, and every other software company mess up a product that doesn't need fixing? Why make me re-learn how to use a product with every friggin' release and upgrade? Sheesh! It was working fine. I liked it! Don't make me have to GO BACK TO SCHOOL and waste time to learn how to do stuff that I already knew how to do. The point of a program is to use it to DO STUFF! The point of a program should not be to "show how cool I can be because I'm a software wizard!

My point exactly. The existing customer base largely acquired by their friendly, easy-to-use operating system and apps, who has been acclimatized, upgrade after upgrade, to continuity in ease-of-use largely has been thrown under the bus in favor of acquiring new customers who are not at all acclimated to smooth and easy upgrade transitions. These new customers are coming from PCs, Blackberries and the like where every upgrade was an earthquake of confusion and frustration. This, in my opinion, is the new Apple. Get used to it. We might not be so quick to remain with Apple products when we have the need to purchase new devices - the price might not be worth the hassle, since hassle is available at much lower prices with pretty much the same functionality.

Apple usually does not reply to feedback. That's always been that way. That doesn't mean they ignore the feedback of costumers. I've been using Apple-products for quit some time now. The first releases of Mavericks and Yosemite did not have so many bugs. Lion and Mountain Lion were much worse on that aspect. . Look at customers appreciation of Yosemite in the apps store. It get's an avarange rating of 4,5 stars out of 5. That means people here complaining about problems are a small minority(although it's no fun when you're one of the few). It doesn't make these problems less important, but sets them in perspective.

A golden rule: If you don't want to be bothered by bugs and other annoying stuff then never upgrade right away (nobody forces you to), but wait next time, until the first or second update of the new OS.


That said, I think this iTunes upgrade was released to soon. It contains quit a few bug, some features seem not even finished yet. I hope we will see an update soon, where all bug and flaws are fixed. That'll be the moment to judge over this version. Personally I think it has potential, but flaws and bugs spoil the fun a bit at the moment.

It seems like most people do not like the new icon. No one has mentioned what I feel is the real issue here. Once you have dozens of icons on your desktop, you may not realize it, but your eyes and your brain simplify the process of recognizing things. This is ICON 101. If the idea of a little picture isn't the whole point, then imagine your desktop with nothing but text descriptions of your programs. I spent probably over a minute (an eternity in the world of finding an icon to start a program) trying to find the new iTunes icon. Why? Because I was looking for a round blue icon. I was NOT looking for an icon that had the word iTunes under it. This goes against ever and any concept of a company's recognition when it comes to how they present themselves to the customer. It's probably true that it won't take long to get used to it, but why frustrate your customers for even a minute, for absolutely no good reason?

it's very obvious the customer has been thrown out of the equation altogether.

Likely because most of the time, the ”customer” doesn’t know what’s going on anyway…

Because Yosemite did not begin to address all of the tedious things about Mavericks, such as the many actions that were only a 2-step process that became 5-6 step processes after Mountain Lion, and had the nerve to add things nobody cared about or wanted, you immediately see that Apple has become just another company, with just another product line, LESS differentiated from the competition than.....well, than Apple products have ever been before in their entire history. This is sad. But, change happens. Those of you who invest, look for the upstart that will topple Apple market in the future. They have become vulnerable. Ears to the ground people!
