Ethernet quit working after Yosemite upgrade

After upgrading to Yosemite, my ethernet word connection quit working. Error says "Either the cable for Ethernet is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding." This happened once before after one of the dot updates to Mavericks. A subsequent update caused it to start working again. Any ideas?

Your solution worked for me Alxmo - thank you!!!

1. Open Network Preferences
2. In the Locations drop down box, select "Edit Locations..."

3. Create a new location

4. Remove the ethernet device, click apply

- note, the first time I tried this it didn't work, I think I missed clicking apply

5. Add a new ethernet device, click apply

Wait. it's takes a second or two, but you should get a message that the cable is connected, and second or two later an IP address.
