Will Garageband 6.0.5 work in Yosemite?

I have a huge podcast project that has been built using Garageband 6.0.5 that I did NOT migrate into Garageband 10 when I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.9.5. If I upgrade to Yosemite, will the older version of Garageband still work as it does now? I was not happy with some of the loss of functionality in the newer version of Garageband and this project is too far along to mess up should it not.

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

but it seems like it might be possible to purchase a iLife '11 disc and download the older version of GB ('11)

Have a look at Amazon for boxed iLife '11 versions, if you can find one.

  • Before you install the iLife '11 version of GarageBand, make a full backup of your system (Time machine or a bootable clone) so you can revert to that state, if need be.
  • Open the AppStore, sign into the Store with your AppleiD from the Store Menu and look at the "purchased" tab. If GarageBand, iPhoto, other iWork applications are there to be accepted, "Accept" them to associate them with your Apple ID. That will ensure, tat you can download them again from the AppStore using your AppleID.
  • Now delete GarageBand 10 from Applications (don't empty the Trash) and run the iLife Installer. Install selectively only GarageBand.
  • Reinstall GarageBand 10 from the AppStore. It will move GarageBand 6.0.5 to a subfolder of Applications.

Dear leonie

I have a problem somewhat like fishpapa's - my mac with GB '11 (6.0.5) crashed (in fact, the keyboard stopped working), my wife bought a new mac w yosemite and GB 10. As expected from reading on this forum, when I try to play copies of my old gb-files (from pindrive) the samples from '11 (drums, in this case) are gone. This really ***** up my work!

Since the new machine is hers and not wired to my apple id, I don't get to download 6.0.5 (as a previous purchase) to the new mac.

Have you got some suggestions? I can still move software and files from the old mac though; however, when I try to migrate 6.0.5 via pindrive to the new mac, it says that 'the instrument library is invalid'. Hope and pray that you can help!

It does. I was using Garageband 6.0.5 in Yosemite (v.10.10.1) with no perceivable issues until I upgraded to GB 10.0.3. Now I've got more issues than a paranoid schizophrenic with an Oedipus complex. Right now I'm trying to build a track in GB 10.0.3, but every time I copy a track segment, Garageband is either making the notes detuned (flat or sharp) or it's making them a full step higher. I really love the effects interface and the new software instruments are amazing, but unless there is a fix for this problem I'm sort of ƒ#cked. Looks like I'll have to go back to using GB 6.0.5.
