Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon. It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN. Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens. Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

I'm having the same issue and wondering if a difference in OS versions is the culprit (one running Yosemite, the other on Mavericks). Worked fine prior to the Yosemite upgrade.

quick update, I can remotely login now but occasionally it will not connect. When this occurs I found simply rebooting my computer (i.e. the one I am using to login into the other computer NOT the remote computer) fixes the problem. While a simple fix it seems like we should not have to reboot to get the login to work. Note when this does occur I can see the "remote" computer but for some reason it sometimes hiccups and will not let me login, once again a simple reboot of the computer I am using fixes the problem so it is satisfactory solution

GOOD NEWS !!! Here is the relief for those who are still suffering --

use your mac terminal to solve the issue with the command below. IT WORKED FOR ME !!! -

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate -configure -access -off -restart -agent -privs -all -allowAccessFor -allUsers

More data for the community: I have 2 Mac Minis I remote to at different locations. I use a Screen Sharing from my Macbook Air to connect.

I cannot connect using Screen Sharing to the one that is on an Airport Extreme router, even when I'm connected to the same network. I can connect to the one that is on a Belkin router from anywhere. I can use Team Viewer to connect to both from my iPhone. Sharing is set up identically on both Minis. All 3 computers are on the same version of Yosemite.

The only variable is the router. What has happened with Yosemite and how it connects to an Airport Extreme?

I also have issues post Yosemite.

I have a 'headless' mac mini on my home network. Trying to screen share from my MacBook directly either from the Finder or PathFinder brings up a "Connection failed..." dialog box.

However, if I launch the Screen Sharing app and type in the IP address for the Mac Mini I immediately get the username and password dialog box to log into the machine and this works fine.

Having connected if I quit the Screen Sharing app, I still can't connect directly but can by IP address.

I think this is a bug

Cheers

I turned on Back to My Mac on my Airport Extreme to see if that would fix the problem. It did not.

However, I have now confirmed that I can connect to using Back to My Mac from my Macbook Air only when I'm connected to the same network. When I try to connect from Macbook Air connected to Network A through the Internet to Network B to the Mini connected to Network B -- it won't connect. This is a new phenomenon after the Yosemite upgrade. This always worked seamlessly before.

I told a friend that the upgrade to Yosemite was the worst OS upgrade ever on my Apple machines but it was still better than the best Windows OS upgrade ever. It's still true but this particular problem is looking very Windows-esque.

Here's my updated experience. My office is running OS 10.8.7 and home system has the latest Yosemite OS. At my office nothing has changed I can screen share with my home system no problem. At home I can see all of my files on the office system but can not screen share. I keep receiving an authentication error message. Weird since I can see all the files no problem but can't do screen share. I tried screen sharing with my office from my MacBook Pro running 10.8.7 and everything works perfect. So what's the issue here??? Yosemite?

Add me to the list with Screen Sharing issues after Yosemite. I also have a Mac Mini running headless so all my access is from my iMac in another room.

I noticed that when I launch finder it takes a lot longer than normal for my Mac Mini to populate in the left pane of finder under "Shared".

Then after it finally pops up and I select it for screen sharing I get the same unable to share screen error thats being reported.

I have read else where that the issue might have to do with the share protocol you have selected (SMB or AFP) but I personally see no difference between the two since the error still occurs.

My headless Mac Mini (upgraded to Yosemite yesterday) is also also not responding to ScreenSharing. I should say that it's hit and miss - ScreenSharing will work intermittently. I've tried enabling and disabling Screen Sharing in Settings and restarting several times. If anyone has any further suggestions on how to fix this the would be very welcome.

The problem is Yoshitonme broke the Bonjour Sleep Proxy, when your Mac goes into sleep mode it drops of the network and that is why it does not pop up.

A workaround this but not a fix is to go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep slide all the way to the right to "Never". Now reboot your Mac and it should stay on your network.

Mileage may vary, it's worked for me so far.
