Had never had this problem with iPhoto, but now that I've updated to OS X Yosemite, iPhoto auto-launches every time I plug in my iPhone and I don't find how to disable it.

I had the same problem with an iPad and just followed the procedure you laid out. No need to delete any files.

Selecting "no application" in iPhoto did not solve it. Rodolfo's post above solved it for me. Image Capture > select the device > little box in lower left > drop down to "no application."

Thx! I had the same Issue, already found the "no application" setting, but that had no effect, so I googled and found this thread.
First, I checked the setting for "Image Capture" as described, but that also had "no application" fir my iPhone.
Finally, I tried your suggestion and deleted the files, rebooted and, finally, success! Now, I can connect my iPhone without launching iPhone!
I am on 10.10.2.

On the new iPhoto in the Import Tab there is a checkbox. If you unchceck it, the iPhoto does not open for this device anymore.
