Yosemite compatibility with microsoft word 2008

I had held off on upgrading to Mavericks because of the issues surrounding the compatibility with Microsoft Word 2008. I am a student and need to use Word to do my work as well as having all of my current documents, including my thesis, in 2008 format. I don't want to risk losing the information or the ability to do my work and I was wondering if there is any information about whether the issue of compatibility with this version had been fixed. I don't have the means to buy a new version of Microsoft but would very much like to be able to update my system since I am still using Mountain Lion.

I'm running 2011 now, I think MS is going to drop support for it and I don't like the idea of subscibing to something that could potentially keep my files orphaned hostages if I decide I no longer want it.

If you have not looked into Libré Office already (completely free and MSO compatible) you can read up here and download and try it out.

Final outcomes FYI Genius bar did safe mode, in-house OS, etcetc and a complete re-install of Yosemite. Finally - I uploaded Office 2011 and all is now fine, with Office anyway! Then discovered wifi connectivity problems... workplace IT folks got it sorted, and now... I think... I'm good to go

My takeaway/advice: Office 2008 does not like Yosemite, or vice versa...whatever Apple says. Lost 2+days of writing work getting this figured out. Onward...

(with thanks for ideas, JimmyCMPIT!)

your welcome, I'm telling my clients they need to put aside an additional $350 when the budget for new macs since MS does not allow corporate upgrade pricing from 2008 (to 2011)

Apple seems to be in line the Microsofts and Adobe upgrade plans which is pay us monthly so we end up making more or fall flat on your face trying to use what you paid us for a few years ago.
