Spotlight in Yosemite will not search web

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro. I live in the United States.

Spotlight simply will not search the web or show Bing search results. All the boxes in spotlight preferences are checked.

When I uncheck everything except Bing result, Spotlight still will not search web or show bing result.

Advice?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

This is a Me Too from a disappointed user. Yosemite Spotlight fails to provide web search results on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Both are already set to English and US. I tried the trick of deleting the preferences file and it still did not work.

I notice that the web search seems to "sort of" work sometimes, in that it might offer a result for some phrases, but not for others... and not for the full phrases on which I actually want to search. It seems that, when the non-web search options get eliminated by the phrase, so too do the web search options.

For example, I can get a Bing result for "Spotlight," while also getting definition, documents, the application, etc., but nothing -- including no web searches -- appears by the time I enter "Spotlight Yosem" for "Spotlight Yosemite search results not working."

I plan to watch this thread for other possible fixes, in the hopes that one will work.

Same issue as you all here. On my MBP with Retina and Yosemite, also on iphone 5s and ipad mini retina. I live in the Netherlands, and use English as a language. Nothing works.

I tried English US / USA and it worked. Adapted the date format etc. to what I am used to on Yosemite. But yesterday I wanted to update my weight in kg in the health app on iOs. Could only do so in lbs...

So I decided to update to English UK / UK which uses the metric system. And it doesn't work anymore.

Tried resetting to English US. But it won't.

Really frustrating. Hope Apple hears us and fixes this asap.

I got it to work.

Now before I tell you how I did it let me say that I got it to work om my machine. I do not garantee that it will work on your machine.

In other words; I do not claim that my ‘solution’ is universal or that it will work for you.

My info:I live in the Netherlands and I want Yosemite to use the English language and still get online results with a Spotlight search

.This is what I did to make it work.

I went to ‘Preferences’ --> ‘Language & Region --> ‘Preferred Language: English’ --> ‘Region: United States (Custom)
Then I clicked on Time Format to choose ’24-Hour Time’.

So now I got the English language, the United States (Custom) region and the European time system.

Then I clicked on ‘Advanced’ in the lower right corner

This took me to the ‘Advanced’ screen.

I have set the following preferences:

Format Language: English. (This MUST be set to English if you want online results in Spotlight)

Number separators: Grouping: Nothing changed

Currency: Euro

Measurement units: Metric

Then I clicked the lower right ‘OK” button.

So here are my thoughts.

You can choose English as language and the United States as Region and then in the advanced screen customize the setting to your particular situation depending on the country that you are in.

Again; I don’t guarantee that it will help everyone. I hope it will help you.
