Bluetooth problem with OSX Yosemite: Magic Mouse and Keyboard

Hello everyone,

I've a problem on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" (late 2013).

I've always used it plugged with an external monitor (I love double screen), magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. On Mavericks everything was perfect with this setup.

Yesterday I installed OSX Yosemite and I've found a boring problem: my Magic Mouse and my Bluetooth Keyboard have a 0.5 second of latency, lag. This happen when the Macbook is not plugged with battery charger. When he is on charge, the problem don't exist.

I noticed this bug also on the public beta of this summer and submit the feedback.

I hoped that they fixed this before release but the bug is still here.

How can i solve this boring problem?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I also reported this issue again and again during each beta release.

This makes the MacBook basically unusable in battery power for doing any kind of design and coding work.

I don't have any bluetooth addons or third party utilities. I also tried clearing PRAMs, and reinstalling Yosemite, to no avail.

Here are some threads about the issue, which, I'm noticing, is common.

Note that while the issue is kind of tolerable using the mouse, it's tragic with the keyboard.

Does this prevent you from using OS X Yosemite?

The issue makes it very difficult for me to use OS X Yosemite

For the report, here are the issues I submitted about this using the feedback assistant:

@DanOsers,

I had a iMac 2013 with Yosemite and no bluetooth problem. I now have a iMac 2014 5K and struggling with bluetooth issues. Even a clean install did not solve this. Wondering why not all iMac 5K users are not affected.

I started a new thread for this problem on iMac 5K here iMac 2014 5K Bluetooth Trackpad Problem after sleep

(I thought the Macbook Pro problems are due to Yosemite and iMac 5K has a different issue. It however appears to be the same)

Hi,

I don't think the link is working, but I'll do a search on the board.

I had some success with more data points on the BT issue on the iMac; When waking the system from deep sleep with ANY BT device, the issues occurs, and is reproducible 100%. However, if I initiate wake with the power button, BT initializes fine, and there are no issues.

from the BT diagnostics it would appear that the power states of the broadcom chip isn't activated correctly when BT wake occurs (and hence duplex communication is limited, and information such as scaling, battery levels etc. all don't work until a hard reset).

I did file a bug report with Apple on it.

Sorry about the link. Here is it again https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6642423

My finding is exactly same as yours. The problem is only present if the iMac is woken up with a bluetooth peripheral.

I am only wondering how all iMac 5K users are not affected by this. If it has something to do with certain iMac hardware, I want to make use of my return period to ask for an exchange.

Same Bluetooth connection loss issue here after Yosemite update - MBP13'' retina while working suddenly lost the connection to Magic Mouse or Trackpad.

The blueutil as proposed by @GLeomode does nothing else than switching bluetooth off and back on. That worked for me in rare cases (luckily you still got the build in trackpad on the MBP). All other hints (PRAM/SMC reset, disk repair) will only work temporary.

Typically I need to reboot - currently at least once a day. I am feeling close to my old Toshiba Windows machine that made me switch to the Mac six years ago.

Yes it is unfortunate that Apple is following in the path of Microsoft...... with updates now introducing more issue than benefits. I will now adopt my upgrade tactics from my microsoft days and wait a couple of versions before upgrading. My wife's MBP on Maverick works fine!!!!

I feel that the resent success of Apple has made them slack and loose sight of Jobs objectives of providing quality hardware and software... at a premium price. Well that premium is becoming much less worthwhile these days. Are there any companies on the horizon like the old Apple?

Also, i think there is an update coming that is in beta testing, will see what it fixes and what it breaks

by the way, I am still waiting for my iPhone 6 128Gb..... think Apple has lost the plot or maybe just focusing on the Asian market and forgetting about Australia.

The Samsung Galaxy is looking rather attractive, and the Sony Vivo as well ;-)) seriously

I'm having the same problem. About a 0.5 sec lag on magic mouse when 13" Retina Macbook Pro is on battery.

It is driving me nuts. My laptop has gone from being a joy to use, to a frustrating pain.

Have tried the various solutions suggested in the thread, but none have made a difference.

So it's good to hear that is might have been fixed in 10.10.1. Anyone have idea when that might be available?

This morning suddenly my Magic Mouse stopped to work. I thought it just broken. I even disassembled it but I shouldn't because It's not that easy to reassembe it again to be that neat as it was. So think twice before you do it.

Anyway, my solution: I removed the mouse in Settings » Bluetooth then rebooted and added the mouse again.

Everything returned to normal, reconnetcs and works as it was (reconnetcs, fast etc). What was annoying that along with the bluetooth issues I experienced wifi problems, drops and disconnetcs.

I am on OS X 10.10 (14A389). Hope this helps.
