Bluetooth problem with OSX Yosemite: Magic Mouse and Keyboard

How do you make Bluetooth Explorer work on Yosemite? I've it crashing with

EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)

all the time, shortly after starting the program.

You have to use the version of explorer from july 2012 (i think it was). That will work on Yosemite.

Do you have a download location or the exact version number?

This is just to let you know some more ideas: I did not have any Bluetooth related problems since the update to 10.10.1 but when trying the 5GHz band WiFi I encountered another issue: I could not connect as the connection was lost seconds after connecting. Needless to mention that there is a huge discussion around "OSX Yosemite Wifi issues" (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6601963?start=1385&tstart=0).

Long story short: I turned off both AirDrop and Handoff (aka. "Continuity") - these features were changed or introduced with Yosemite. 5GHz is now working... Maybe this also helps for the Bluetooth issue:

Turn AirDrop off:

Run the following command in terminal - it will stop AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link) :

sudo ifconfig awdl0 down

The following command will start it again:

sudo ifconfig awdl0 up

Turn Handoff/Continuity off:

System Preferences - General - Uncheck 'Handoff/Continuity' in the bottom

I dont think it is possible to link directly to the site since it is password protected for developers. But go to Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Developer. Log in and then search for Bluetooth explorer. Choose Hardware IO tools for xcode - Late July 2012 which was released on nov 26, 2012. That one should work well on Yosemite.

One day running on beta 10.10.2 without any BT/WiFi problem for me.

May Apple finally solved?

I'm on a Mac mini (Late 2012) running Yosemite (10.10.1) and had a lot of lag with my Magic Mouse. The mouse cursor would work smoothly for about 15 seconds then lag for about the next 15 seconds and continue the process all day every day since upgrading to Yosemite. I did the PRAM reset twice but it did not help.

Fixed for me:

Disable Internet Sharing

I came across this by accident when I noticed that my mouse was working fine all of a sudden and I went to reenable my internet sharing then the mouse started lagging again. Disabled internet sharing and mouse lag issues stopped. I'm also running Little Snitch 3.5 and I'm not sure if its a factor in the issue but it's currently active and mouse is running great. Will leave my internet sharing setting off.

Two days running beta 10.10.2 also no problem yet.

iMac running 10.10.1. Bluetooth cuts out after sleep mode. Did it all, SMC reset, PRAM reset, plist delete, blah blah blah/

Brought it to the genius bar...nothing found...BECAUSE there's nothing wrong with the hardware. BLAH BLAH BLAH

When does Apple own this?

I wrote before that PRAM reset was the issue, but that's not it! PRAM reset cleared for a little while the issue, but it came back.

The real issue I figured out was the Wi-Fi, as someone wrote in here!!!!

When Wi-Fi is on the mouse is working interestedly and sometimes refuse to connect!!!

When WI-Fi IS OFF, THE MOUSE WORKS FLAWLESSLY!!!!

Do you hear, Apple???!!!!

Fix that bug!!!!!

There are, as far as I have found out, two ways to solve this problem permanently.

1) Buy a BT dongle ( you can import it from China for a dollar) and make it default using bluetooth explorer software.

2) Download the Beta

I have done 1) on my iMac and 2) on my MacBook Air. I had the BT problem with mouse losing connection all the time earlier. Now it is gone for good.

Apple will probably fix it when the Beta becomes a regular update.

Does turning Wi-Fi help in your case?

I got so annoyed with the constant trashing of the bluetooth plist or resetting smu or resetting pram, I finally began using USB peripherals. I'll hard wire to the modem later and give it a go. Frankly, I'm not sure what I'm doing isn't better. Saves on batteries!

I finally gave up after months of trying to fix my Bluetooth issue and tried a fresh install of OSX 10.10, the bluetooth devices work perfectly now. There must be some conflict between MacBook/Yosemite and Mavericks or how Mavericks dealt with the install of what I had installed before under Mavericks -- maybe Yosemite didn't like how Mavericks installed Parallels for example (note: I chose a random app here). All of the same apps work in Yosemite when installed under Yosemite and BT issues didn't come back.
