I have the exact same issue, Safari worked at first after I got Yosemite, but now I can't launch the app at all. The icon just bounces once and stops. Help!

EDIT: I've also just noticed that Mail doesn't want to launch either. Great.

Issue:

After upgrading to Yosemite, my Safari no longer opens a browser window when clicking on it

Analysis:

I had a custom launch location for my safari outside of my applications folder. Yosemite wasn't smart enough to look for this on upgrade and didn't replace my safari from the old to the new.

Solution:

I copied and pasted the new safari in Applications and pasted it in my custom launch location choosing to replace the old Safari. This fixed my problem.

After installing Yosemite I have ongoing issues with:

- mail client doesn't load all the content from emails

-safari doesn't load the pages. It opens but than it is stuck in 1/4 of the load bar and never loads a sites.

-app store - constantly saying can't connect.

I read a lot of forums and there is a lot of people with similar issues. I called Apple support 3 times already.

1 call - we did SMC reset and P+R reset. It fixed issue for 2 days

2 call - we removed some cache files, cleared safari history etc .nothing major. I may add that problems goes away after reboot. But i dont want to reboot every time i cant load emails or safari hangs again...i didnt have to do it for 4 years so far so why now.

3 call - we did scan of files - the one that you turn on with p+r reload. Scan the hardrive..nothing bad was found and tech recommended reinstalling Yosemite.

I reinstalled Yosemite..problem is still here.

I was surprised by tech saying there is not that many users with similar issues while i read a lot of similar cases.

I really hope someone from Apple will look at this issue finally and fix it. It was all good for 4 years with 4 other apple soft upgrades meanwhile and now all those issues with Yosemite. Please help as I start to be frustrated already after IOS 8 slowness you served to users with IPad 3rd gen.

As "someome" said Apple is software company but the software becomes as buggy and unusable as other major competition company failure.

Sincerely

Matt

I've reinstalled my system - it's better than it was but still not seamless. The Terminal commands:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

...do get it working.

You would think it's an easy bug fix. Apple?? Anyone home??? We're not typing this for fun.

After weeks of Safari "stuttering" while scrolling, the pinwheel ever present on a 27" Mac when opening various applications and the machine locking up while reading a simple PDF while having Safari and Mail open, I gave up. The issues were present on all four machines in the house, two Mac's and two Mac Airs. All of this happened after installing Yosemite and worsened after 10.10.1 Long time Apple user and I finally had it. Fixed every machine doing the following: Sys>Pref>scrolling to "always," sys pref>dock>changed from genie effect to "scaling" and lastly, as much as I hated to do it, loaded Chrome on every machine. I no longer having scrolling issues, no pinwheels and my machines are where they used to be. My guess - Safari is the culprit and it's giving Yosemite a bad name.

Hello Apple!?!?!

After upgrading to Yosemite I noticed Safari working slow for a couple of hours, then it cleared up. It worked great for a couple of days then I started noticing all of the same problems others have mentioned here, Safari won't load a page, App Store won't connect, Apple Mail won't connect to my email servers.

I did what Vin_OZ did and it got me back up and running. I just don't understand why Apple didn't get this worked out already!

I was having internet connection issues on my Macbook Pro as soon as I upgraded to Yosemite. I could get on the web using Crome, but if I tried Safari, App Store, or iTunes, I was getting no where. Tried troubleshooting it in different ways according to several suggestions in the support pages/web and final decided to get in contact with Apple.

We went through three different tests…this is what worked for me (Test#3). Hope it helps someone.

TEST#1

first create a test account

Open System Preferences by clicking the  in the upper left and selecting it from the drop down menu.

Choose "Users & Groups" under the System list, then Click the Lock to unlock then to make changes. You will be prompted for your Computer password.

Select the + directly above the Lock to add an account. The format should be as follows:

New Account: Administrator

Full Name: Test User

Account name: testuser

(Use separate Password): Test

Verify: Test

Password hint: Test

I would like for you to use Safari to see if you are having the same issue.

Alright you may delete the test user account.

TEST#2

Next we will perform a pram reset: What the reset does is reset the settings controlling your speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selections, time zone information, Keyboard and a few other settings. (No data would be lost.)

Here is how to reset the PRAM:

Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.

Shut down your Mac.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Here are the remaining steps:

Turn on the computer.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.

Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Release the keys.

You may let me know when you hear the startup sound more than once please.

While holding down the keys after pressing the power button to turn on, you may see a grey screen, but it goes off really fast.

TEST#3

Our next step would be to use the Disk Utility application to check the hard drive for any errors.

Here are the first set of steps:

1. Shut down the system.

2. Hit the power button to turn on the computer, immediately hold down both the left command key and the R key.

1. Keep those two keys held down until you see a bar loading to the bottom of the screen and then release the keys.

2. Select “English” in the language menu then click on continue or next.

Here are the remaining steps.

1. When the menu comes up Select “Disk Utility” from the menu.

Great: Here are the next steps: 1. On the left hand side select “MacIntosh HD”

2. On the bottom right hand side, click on “Verify Disk”(this may take a few minutes)

3. If the results shows “The disk seems to be okay” in green, then quit disk Utility.

4. If the results shows “The disk seems to have errors” in red, then click on the “repair” key on the bottom left.

Okay let’s verify it again

Me:it went through with no errors

Awesome, so what we can do is restart the system then check to see if you are still having the same issue. If you are the next step would be to reinstall the OS X which would place a fresh copy of the OS X on the macbook pro along with your data.

Quit Disk Utility

Then you restart.

Test Safari, App store, iTunes store

Same problem here. Safari suddenly stopped working after a few days. I've been spared wifi problems with Yosemite but am experiencing the weirdest bugs. Safari is just one of them.

Can't be bothered to solve the Safari one, if it's even solvable, I just use another browser.

I'm seriously looking at Windows as my next upgrade! I suddently realized I was experiencing more bugs than I ever did when I used a PC. Only thing that's keeping me is the bloatware that comes with every PC on the planet (could do a clean install I suppose) and the "hot corners" system to go from one open app to the other. If I could get that on a PC I would sell my Macbook, it's just become too annoying for words.

After installing Yosemite, safari doesn't work any more.
