My Kodak printer doesn't work with Yosemite

My wife and I share a Kodak ESP7250 printer connected with Wi-Fi. Since we upgraded to Yosemite, we haven't been able to print any documents.

I have gone to the printer utility and was able to print a test page.

But when I print a test item from Notes or text edit, the printer takes a long time, seemingly printing one line, waiting and then another line. Except the paper is blank, and the printer icon tells me that an unexpected error has occurred. I then open print the print utility which tells me that I don't have a connection.

I can shut everything down and repeat the steps above. The error my printer icon shows comes up before it laboriously prints the blank page.

I downloaded the Kodak utilities which tell me that my drivers are up to date.

I waited for the Kodak chat on its queue until it finally told me nobody was available, so maybe they know the trouble.

I have the same issue with my Kodak ESP 9250 not printing anything with my Mac running Yosemite. I was on the phone for several hours yesterday with Kodak support and they were trying to get things working on my computer but never did. They said they were aware of the issue with some other Kodak printer models, but I was the first one to report the issue with the 9250. I went through 3 tier levels of support, but they could not get it working. They (Kodak support) told me that they were "escalating" their work for the fix, and should have a patch available soon.

Downgrading the drivers was complicated (had to open the package contents on the 7.6 installer and then run the installer app itself on a right-click +open). And it didn't work in any case. I still have exactly the same symptoms: the 5200 series Kodak pulls the sheet in, reports an error in the print queue, then spits the blank sheet out when I delete the job.

Still, I'm saving a fortune on ink, which is why I bought a Kodak in the first place 👿.

I am somewhat familiar with the Kodak printers, as I was a retail rep for the printers for four years, and worked with Kodak product support to resolve some second- and third-level problems. I was on the chat line with Kodak printer support (now in India) the day Yosemite came out (16 Oct).

The support center was "surprised" that the printer driver did not work with Yosemite, and the technician assured me that "they are working on the problem." The actual driver coding will probably be done by a contract developer here in the US.

Kodak declared bankruptcy in 2012, and the printers were one of the product lines that were jettisoned. The five years of support that is usual for such actions goes through 2017, so the printers will eventually be supported on Yosemite, and possibly its successor.
