I posted a 'security bug' at http://bugreporter.apple.com about this.

Here is the response I got:

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for contacting the Apple Product Security team. We take every report of a potential security issue very seriously. This message is being sent to you by a security analyst who has reviewed your note.

After examining your report we do not see any actual security implications. The behavior described in your bug report is expected. Computer-to-computer networks are intended for specific short term use cases and should not be used for general networking.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to let us know.

Best regards,

First, and it's irrelevant, I never said how I was using it. I do use these for short periods of time. It makes no difference. Tell me...am I crazy or is this nuts?

Hello, looking on the internet I found a solution to the problem!

I copy you the solution:

Go to the Apple Menu -> System Preferences

Go to Sharing preference bread

Select "Internet Sharing"

Choose the source port

Set your connection to be broadcast over WiFi

Click on WiFi options and sets to network name and security

While this is a little Involved Opinions more than just creating the ad-hoc, it will serve the same purpose as well as having the benefit of sharing your connection. At this time, there is no way to add security to an ad-hoc network only on Yosemite.

Hopefully Apple will make an update of Yosemite, so that crare the network is as easy as in Mavericks

I am having an issue with this as well. I am a musician and use my Macbook Pro onstage. I create a wireless network with my Macbook and control iTunes with my iPhone to play an introduction from offstage as well as assorted clips in between songs. Now after upgrading to Yosemite anyone can access my computer because I can't create a secure network! This could cause all kinds of havoc!! How can I remedy this?

Not true. Others might see your open connection but in order to access your files on your Mac - and only if you have enabled a File sharing on your Mac - others will need to know your user name and password. In order to access your iTunes Library - if you do use Home Sharing - they will need to know your AppleID and password.

If you do share your iTunes Library via iTunes > File > Preferences > Sharing, then you can add a password to secure your Library.

In other words, no need to panic...

I see nothing labeled 'Source port'. Do you mean the pulldown menu that says 'Share your connection from'?

On that pulldown menu that says Share your connection from changed to Ethernet or anything else that is not WiFi. After that, you should see WiFi option appearing under To computer using: section - if you then enable WiFi on that list, you will see another button appearing on this window called WiFi options... which will give you an option to enable secure network.

Remember I will have no connection to the internet at my shows.

If above will work Internet connection might not be required as your goal is only to setup secure Network connection between 2 devices and if your iPhone will be able to see and connect to your Mac's network then that is all what you need...

I did not have chance to test this so I can't tell if this will work for sure however I would suggest to test this setup at home first before you will hit the stage... 😉

I had a friend use his iPhone to connect to my ad hoc wifi network in rehearsal and he had full access. I had no file sharing enabled in system preferences. He needed no username or password.

I disconnected my router and tried the internet sharing method described above but my iPhone did not see any wifi network.

I appreciate the responses thank you.
