How to create a secured computer-to-computer network in Yosemite?

I just updated my macbook pro with retina display to the latest Yosemite. Then I clicked the wifi icon and selected "create network". Surprisingly, the password option is gone!! I called apple care but they don't have a clue. So how can I create a

I'm afraid you guys (and maybe Apple) are not thinking this one through. Consider the real scenario of a musician on stage using an iPad app to communicate with a music app running on a laptop. No files are involved and anyone who could log on to that network would be able to control that music app if the app itself does not support username/password protection - most don't, they're intended to be easy to use.
