Website Icons are entirely missing in Safari 8.0

Greetings,

My bookmarks seem to have lost their icons since I have upgraded to Yosemite/Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25). Each one had their own icon before the update.

So okay something likely messed up, so I have deleted the WebpageIcons.db as recommended in this thread:

safari website icons gone from my bookmark bar

However that did not accomplish anything. The icons do not reload when I visit a website.

I actually got to like them over time. I don't see why the feature would be unceremoniously abandoned since it probably doesn't require much code.

So... what gives?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem. The favicons disappeared in the sidebar after installing Yosemite, but they were still visible from the dropdown Bookmarks tab. I went through the procedure described by Dimaxum and the favicon disappeared from the dropdown, too. They reappear in the dropdown after clicking on the individual websites (one at a time for all your bookmarks) but still don't show up on the sidebar. Any additional thoughts about how to fix this or is it a 'feature'?

I'm still convinced it's a glitch. There's numerous glitches in this release of Safari, this being one of them.

If it isn't... then Apple should say so explicitly so we're not wasting our time posting issues in the support forums like we are now. I kinda liked the favicons but if they've been eliminated as a feature officially then I'd like to know.

It is sad that Apple seams to be going backwards. The favicons was a practical/fast visual way of clicking on a bookmarked page.Without it makes a bit more difficult to find the bookmarked page on the list. After many years of using Safari,I had to switch to firefox now.

If apple continues to make things less user friendly I will give up on all my apple family.(IMac,Apple Tv,Iphone, etc) I'm getting close to the point...

:-(

Try to do what I wrote. I don't think there is any better way to refresh the favicon icons in Safari. I don't understand what sdspalter said about it not being there. It's not possible to launch Safari on Yosemite without it creating the folder I mentioned.

If you aren't familiar with the user Library folder, read instructions here on how to get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18928?viewlocale=en_US

Andrew thanks a lot! Your solution worked. Only additional step I had to perform, restart the machine after deletion of files. Once it restarted, I re-launched Safari 8 and I saw the icons begin to download, then I verified at the folder level, and all icons were replaced there as well.. Thanks!
