airdrop with yosemite on two mac's not working

After upgrading my two mac's (iMac late 2009 and MacBook Air 2012), AirDrop does not work anymore. The two mac's are in the same WLAN.

With Mavericks it worked perfectly!

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I've figured it out! After much confusion re: a Macbook air's Airdrop that stopped working after a reinstall of OS X.

You need to do a few things in order to make this work on BOTH computers, the order of which isn't concrete and you may have to go back and forth but make sure all these boxes are checked:

1. Go to system preferences and go to "Bluetooth"

2. Make sure bluetooth is on and that is says "now discoverable"

3. Pair your computer with the other computer if you see it.

4. Go BACK to System preferences and now click "Sharing"

5. Make sure you check "Bluetooth Sharing" (you may need to do this prior to the other steps in order to pair the computer)

*I have also checked File Sharing as well, not sure if this would affect it but no reason to leave it off

After making sure all of these settings are the same across both computers I went back to my newer computer and in the airdrop window I clicked "search for older macs" and immediately both airdrops showed up and worked perfectly.

Hope this helps!

Question for you William,

Airdrop was working like a dream before I updated my new macbook pro (2015) to 10.10.4, and now it rarely works (between mbp and iphone 6) and when it does it is slow to transfer. It also stopped asking me whether I'd like to accept incoming transfer most of the time. Before the update it was lightening fast and recognized my phone on the comp every time. (obviously airdrop is on with "everyone" enabled)

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Albert

First time working with AirDrop in Max OS X, and all I can say is what a hot mess!

Our setup is a Mid-2011 MacBook Air running Yosemite and a late-2013 iMac running Mavericks.

I can transfer a file from the iMac to the MacBook no problem. But transferring from the MacBook to the iMac, we always get an error "MacBook Air canceled the Copy" after I click the Save or Open and Save buttons on the iMac.

In addition, neither of the Macs display any clickable links on the bottom of the AirDrop window in order to specify Discovery or to search for Older Macs.

None of the fixes in this thread make any difference.
