Horizontal pixel lines in Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite. Everything looked great yesterday and for most of today, but then I started noticing black horizontal lines across the display. These lines appear every two pixels. I never noticed this before upgrading to Yosemite. These appear system wide, including on the desktop image (the default image of a mountain range), although it is only obvious on the orange sky, not the mountain range itself.

I think it may also be something to do with multiple monitors. My current setting for my Built-in Retina Display is "Best for display", but I can still see it if I choose the highest graphics resolution. My color profile is "Color LCD", is this the default? Perhaps its how the system does shading?

Restarting the computer or restarting in safe mode does nothing. Same with disconnecting the display and restarting. I don't have this effect on an external monitor either. Is there anything else that I can do?

My system details are as follows:

OS X Yosemite, Version 10.10

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1526 MB

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013

I also just got this issue. faint horizontal lines appear every 20 or so pixels, and are approximately 1 pixel wide. This is the retina screen. Even the initial boot-up "Apple logo" shows this.

Any confirmation of the source of the problem?

- software only?

- video firmware?

- hardware defect?

Yes d1d, is annoying-frustrating to be in this situation, I have a good (and expensive) computer, and after only one year i got this issue. The worst is that I was very careful with this mac. 😢

Thank you for your help d1d, don't forget me. When you'll get your mbp-r repaired, let me know the cost plz, maybe a friend or familiar, can travel to US this year and carry my mbp-r to an apple service center.

I also seem to have this problem where every 2nd pixel line horizontal is dimmed down just a bit, you have to look closely. but its there! its simply not acceptable on a Retina screen, and there must be some answer to this? It came with an update to the OSX but dosent seem to be there in the black and apple logo startup screen. But appears when i have to login... Come on apple

I have exactly the same issue on my only 1 year old Mac. Manufacturer warranty just ran out... 😟.

The issue just happened from day to the other. Can anyone give advise on what the issue actually was? Hardware or Software fault?

It would be really annoying if there is an issue with the hardware and I have to pay for it. As the macbook only sits on the table and there should be no reason for anything to break with the screen.

FYI - I've upgraded to El Captain and that didn't resolve the issue with lines.
