RocketRAID 2314 w/ Yosemite?

Seems like Yosemite does not have driver for this card. HighPoint site is awful for communicating with them. Anyone have a 2314 working with Yosemite, and/or know if HighPoint will release an updated driver?

Also, just for clarity if someone is reading this. I was not using RAID anything. I was just using 5 drives in an external port multiplier EnhanceBOX E8 PM (Port multiplier) . http://www.enhance-tech.com/products/desktop/E8_pm.html

I had a RAID 5 array before, but now just using drives stand alone. So apparently the Rocket 644L does NOT support port multipliers. It sees some of the drives, but not all.

It was almost impossible to even find the Rocket 644L on the Highpoint Tech website. Every search for it I do just comes up with the RocketRAID 644L. I do see a reference to it here. http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA_new/product_support_sata6.htm

But the documentation makes no reference to PM support. So let me be very clear to anyone searching. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT PM enclosures. Hope this helps someone else avoid my mistake.

I have managed to get the card working under Yosemite by copying the old version of the Kext files from mavericks.

The only reason these cards have stopped working is because apple have dropped support for older 3Gbps cards.

The file path and names of the files:

/Library/Extensions

HighPointIOP.kext

HighPointRR.kext

I managed to copy these from a time machine version from before my upgrade, once copied over i just restarted and the raid popped up good as new.

With 10.10 my Rocketraid 2314 was working fine with drivers from Maverick and the kexts were loaded automatically, as i did not just copy them.

Updating to 10.10.1 became a disaster.

Had to reboot from a backup disk and delete the highpoint kexts, as system was not starting and was getting a panic screen.

Will try further and if i have success i'll come back.

Unfortunately, with 10.10.1 , not possible with Rocketraid 2314 drivers from Mavericks.

System not booting and lasts to a panic screen 😟

I will have to use my Mavericks external disk/partition for being able to use my raid

or buy Rocketraid 644L. 😟

Backwards compatibility seems not favourable for Apple and neither for Highpoint. 😟

If you try booting in safe mode dose the computer still kernel panic?

If you can boot in safe mode then navigate to the highpoint kext files and double check the permissions especially that "system" has full read write privilege.

also check that installing the update hasn't installed the latest drivers as well if you have two versions of the same kext it could cause a kernel panic as it would not be able to know which one to boot with.

let me know how you get on, i have not taken the plunge yet of updating to 10.10.1 but i would like to know if its possible without forking out for new cards.

Hi there. Hey Bringer and the rest, that was great info and very encouraging. I have the 2314 card. Just upgraded to Yosemite a few days ago. Realized my sata drives are not mounting now. I'd rather not buy another Highpoint Card if I don't have to. I looked in my Yosemite Library/extensions folder and there they still are. Both HighPointIOP.kext and HighPointRR.kext are there. Version 4.3.3 though. But no luck getting the drives to mount. I might try Alien69's terminal boot method.

Well. I figured out I was looking in the old Library/Extensions folder. Found the new one created by Yosemite and sure enough those Highpoint kext files were not in there. So I copied them from the old Mavericks directory into the new one. Yosemite immediately reclassified the permissions removing the "system" user and gave me an error message that the extensions cannot be used. Rebooted and though they are in the extensions folder they are not running. I went to add back in the "system" user classification to the files and it is not offered as an option. Looks like this will take some terminal work. So 1st I'll try Alien69's terminal boot method. Let you know.
