iCloud drive sync

Hi

I updated my iOS devices to iCloud drive prior to yosemite. Now I've updated to yosemite on my mac, I have put a lot of data on there. Unfortunately, this is not being shown on my iPad and phone. They still have the pre yosemite data!!!

I was under the impression that yosemite would facilitate the syncing of files, etc, across all platforms. I need my docs on all devices.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks in advance.

You're debating semantics and distracting the focus from the main issue. If I'm on my Mac and I create or edit a document which is stored on my iCloud Drive I expect that document to be available to me when I try to access it from another device minutes, hours, or days later. I expect this to work transparently without having to constantly double check that my changes have synced to the cloud and without having to frequently perform ridiculous troubleshooting acrobatics. If there is an issue I expect complete clarity and transparency about it instead of staring at a blank screen with zero information about what may have gone wrong.

Other cloud storage services have been meeting and exceeding this expectation for years. There's no excuse for Apple to still lag in such a critical feature. If this boils down to Apple doing it differently from everyone else from a technical standpoint then perhaps it's about time Apple abandon their clearly failed strategy and adopt whatever proven methodology the others are using.

Your individual, anecdotal experience does not invalidate the thousands of complaints about apples cloud services going back several years. just look at the sheer number of complaints in this forum.

The point is not whether it can work, but whether it actually works consistently over time.

And that's not even counting the huge number of complaints from developers about Apple's cloud syncing services. Here is just one example:

I suppose that I have to agree with the fallibility of the iCloud drive. I keep files (Excel spreadsheets) in my iCoud drive to access from my multiple machines. During the old sync folder days, I never experienced a problem with losing sync on hundreds of files. I started using the iCloud drive to wean myself off of JustCloud (pay for use), and WHAM ... i lost sync on one of my files. I was given the choice of which file to use, and I selected. All seemed to be working until the next attempt (today). Now I have a choice of one file, and when I select it, it will not open. I can double click to see that the contents are there, but I have no way to access it. I cannot even drag it to a local folder location. I get a conflict message, and it refuses to allow me to do anything with it. Fortunately, I can copy/paste to a folder without prevention.

Just a comment on how it does not perform as flawlessly as some may think.

Yes. There is no denying that when it is not working, something is causing it, and I fully agree that finding the root cause would support a correction. I do not expect that this issue will go away, nor do I expect that it will recur with notable frequency. I just wanted to provide a real experience in the event that Apple developers actually look at any of this stuff. Thanks for your comment, though.
