New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.0.2

For the love of god thank you....been dealing with this garbage from crApple for way too long. the only reason I am even dealing with iTunes at this point is because my POS crApple iPad took a **** when I "upgraded" to iOS 9 and started force restarting constantly while I was in the middle of doing things and apparently the only way to fix it is through recovery mode which I couldn't do because the POS iTunes wouldn't recognize any of my devices...so glad my contract is up with Verizon and I can leave this garbage behind and move back to android, its not even worth worrying about the Apps and data i will lose by switching anymore at this point. I have never been a huge Apple fan in the first place, and lately they have just flushed the entire company down the toilet and turned it into a giant joke that just cashes in on people blindly throwing money at the big shiny Apple logo with no real substance behind any of the products they are "innovating"...so done with this joke of a company.

To the person that posted the picture with the 3 files .......

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the VERY helpful posting. I had been dealing with this iTunes issue of not recognizing my iPhone 6 for about a month. I had tried everything. I installed, re-installed, deleted, downloaded drivers, etc etc, etc, etc.....

Then I read this and it WORKED!!

Just like you instructed, I deleted all files pertaining to a Apple iTunes/Mobile/Software etc and now my iTunes has recognized my iPhone and I am running Windows 10.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices.
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Or try iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
