New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.0.2

whats the step by step guide to uninstall these programs.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documentsfurther down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

See Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support and Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Photos taken on the device are normally using Windows Explorer and can be copied off from there. If you want to reclaim images uploaded to the device using iTunes then you'll probably need a third party tool.

Uninstalling iTunes & its associated programs, and re-installing it again didn't work. When I opened the device manager, it showed Apple Mobile Device USB Driver icon with a '!' under the USB controllers list. Updating the driver did no good. The funny thing is that when I uninstalled the USB driver, the Portable Device list suddenly appeared in device manager and showed Apple iPhone (working) but when I reinstalled the USB driver by either (a) scanning for hardware change, or (b) manually selecting the driver usbaapl64.inf in the Apple driver folder, the Portable Driver tree vanished and the same USB driver '!' icon reappeared again under the USB controllers list.

What is going on here? I'm totally lost, device icon/sync doesn't appear in iTunes at all & I can't sync! Help!

Thanks. I do use Win7 64-bit but I just need to know one thing: is that recent iTunes auto-update and itunes6464setup.exe the same thing? If so, then I'll try this one you suggested because the one I reinstalled earlier was itunes6464setup.exe. Speaking of this installer, it said "only for Windows 7 and later on 64 bit systems that are unable to support iTunes video playback requirements on older and low end video cards". My card is GeForce GTX 750 Ti. Is that considered old?

Also, do I have to uninstall everything - iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, etc. etc. or just iTunes? Thanks again in advance for the assist.

If the program installed successfully but gave you the warning the video playback wasn't supported then it will be probably be OK to install itunes64setup.exe from the iTunes 12 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) page. You can do a full tear down and rebuild if needed.

It may not be that your card is "older" in any meaningful sense, simply that iTunes has detected content in your library that it cannot play using only its own codecs and the card's drivers. You are therefore likely to need not only the alternate build of iTunes but also the current version of QuickTime.

I went ahead, uninstalled the current iTunes + all related progs and reinstalled iTunes using the one you suggested. I got the same thing actually - the USB driver is still not recognized & I still got that '!' in the USB controller list.I forgot to mention it earlier but everytime I tried to update, I got the Code 52 error.

Went to the Advanced Boot Options and disabled driver signing checking. Only then the USB driver is recognized, my phone is detected in iTunes & I got to sync. So, should I uninstall this again and use the normal iTunes installer? Would there be any effect if I continue to use this itunes64setup.exe version instead of the itunes6464setup.exe? Should I enable driver signing checking again?
