Yosemite slow on Macbook Air

Help! Seriously....

I updated to Yosemite the other day and since then my Macbook is extremely slow...

It is really annoying, especially because I have no clue what the reason could be.

I would really appreciate if anyone has an idea how to fix this.

Apple doesn´t seem to know the answer! (What a let down...)

Thank you very much for taking your time!

Some of the problems:
+ The fan is running much more often now

+ MacBook gets very warm

+ Battery drain is extremely high

+ Animations and scrolling inside OS not fluent anymore

I have already tried the following:

+ new install

+ verify disk permissions

+ SMC-Reset

+ PRAM Reset (Cmd+P+R)

Here comes my report, I really hope anyone can help me with that.

I am really disappointed of Apple... What a let down!

Had similar problems with MBA 2012 - especially slow whilst trying to login.

After lots of troubleshooting, turns out to have been McAfee Security.

AS SOON as I uninstalled it, my performance came back immediately.

I have the same installation on my iMac and is was unaffected.

Apple Support confirmed it was a known problem.

I had the same problem with my brand new MBA, you'd imagine I was pretty upset... I tried everything to get rid of the lag, but I did not try to reboot it, as I did not think it could be that easy to solve... Frankly, it was that easy 😝 A restart was all it needed, and now Yosemite runs like a beast... If that is not working, I suggest you bring it to the shop you bought your MB from, because you could lose your warranty if you start messing with your hard drive etc.

Also, you might want to look if you didn't install any 'illegal programs' such as Popcorn Time or any other illegal streaming services before you return your device to the manufacturer...

I THINK I have resolved the running issue on mine, as it seems much faster. Although BOOT time is still not as quick as it used to be.

Not sure I did it in the right order, or of the order matters at all, but here is what I did:

Reset PRAM. Apple says to keep hold of the keys until you hear the 2nd chime. However, I was informed by a friend to keep hold until the 4th chime and then release. This apparently removes all the old OSX files that are hidden somewhere on the computer which can cause conflicts.

Reset SMC (from boot).

Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility).

Reset ACL (from boot).

Now, one article that I came across mentioned resetting the printers. To do this its System Preferences> Printers and Scanners> Right click on your active printer> Reset Printing System.

You will then have to re-add your printer but this is no great shakes.

Seems to have done the trick for now but will try and monitor things.

Hope this helps.
