Text message forwarding - no code on iPad or Mac

Hi,

I've just installed iOS 8.1 on my iPhone and iPad. I'd like to set up text message forwarding, but when iPhone ask me to enter the code shown on my iPad or Mac - no code is showed on both.

iPad, iOS 8

Seems the log off log on from both worked for me

I had noticed that though my MAC had my phone number AND an email address to receive messages from.. iPhone DID NOT

So I logged out of imessage account on mac.

Logged out of imessage account on iphone

Rebooted iphone (just for good measure)

Logged back into imessage in iphone

Added the email address to imessage on the iphone (as it previously only had my cell number) Set cell as default

Rebooted because SMS forward was not on iphone still, rebooted again still not there.

Logged into imessage on mac... verified mac had the phone number AND email setup and that phone number was default.

Then bing bang boom. mac popped up.. detected iphone asked if i wanted to it to handle sms.. put code on iphone mac gave me and it worked.

I had tried 10 times trying to initiate the setup by starting on iphone and going under messages and enabling the text forwarding.. then imessage would pop up on mac and iphone would ask for a code. But nothing would ever happen.. no code.

I was having the same problem with the SMS.

What I did was activate all the email address under my iMessage account on my phone and on my Mac. Then before I knew it "BAM" finally, the long lost hidden code appeared. I know for sure that will work.

I did not have to reset anything though.

After it started working, I noticed that you will need at least one email account linked with it. Doesn't have to be on the mac, but you will need on email address checked on the iPhone.

Give it a shot. 😎

I tried all the suggestions above (iPad) with no luck. Finally, after getting my mac to display the code, I tried again on my iPad - this time making sure I was at the home screen rather than in the settings. Once my iPad was on the home screen and I then turned on the "Text Message Forwarding" on my iPhone, it finally received/displayed the code. It appears as though it is a trial-and-error exercise at this point. Success!

I tried all the post on this topic but nothing didn't work for me. So I didn't get the code to activate. However I found a solution and maybe it's helpful for you as well. Go on your Ipad and Iphone to Settings/Messages and turn on Send & Receive at your phone number and a emailadress. Make sure that you use the same emailadress that's linked to your iCloud profile. Do the same on your mac Messages/preferences/ and turn on the same emailadress. Go now to your iPhone/settings/messages/text message forwarding and turn it on for your mac and Ipad. Hopefully both are showing now the code you need.

Good luck!

My phone number is not listed in the "send & recive" on iphone and in "you can be reached at" on macbook, only my apple id and the icloud account wich are both selected. I think here is the problem but I`ve got no ideea how to add the phone number in order to select it. tryied to add the number like an email adress but is not working. Any help please? 😟

Actually, simply turning on and off iMessages on the various devices did not work for me.

I believe the problem is rooted in having only your telephone number connected to your iMessages (and FaceTime too) on your various iOS devices and computer. This is a useful setup if you want to avoid having iMessages and FaceTime splinter off between your phone number and Apple ID but unfortunately does not allow this new feature to work correctly.

Accordingly, on your iPhone make sure that your telephone number AND AppleID are checked off available addresses to Send & Receive (same for FaceTime).

For other iOS devices (i.e. iPad) and OS X devices, you can leave iMessages and FaceTime set up with only the telephone number.

I did this and now I can send and receive regular texts on my iPhone, iPad and Mac Book Pro with the text message chain keeping in sync. I can also receive telephone calls on my Mac Book Pro (the call forwarding feature).

Hope this helps!
