Report on the NEW iOS 8.1 Revision Today

I've been waiting for the iOS 8.1 revision today, as it contains some bug fixes and some NEW FEATURES added. It's out now, but I can't get to a WiFi spot just yet, as I'm running around. I'll be getting to it later today.

HOWEVER, please do let us know of some of your problems have been fixed or if there are some problems remaining. I hope this is going to help a lot of people today!

The two new items that I've been waiting for are "iCloud Photo Library" (in beta, though) and "iCloud Drive"!

I have had nothing but Lagging and Stuttering issues with the new update for the iPhone 6 Plus. I didn't have any problems before, but after installing 8.1 this morning, I have lag issues from thing like messaging, killing apps, deleting emails, unlocking the device, sliding pages, and opening apps. It's very frustrating and from what I'm reading, I'm not sure if it's just my device or if others are having the issue as well.

hay, Strangely enough My Ipad 4 wifi is allot slower than previous, for example I've got a 40mb broadband speed on fibre, when I do a speed test on the Iphone 6 I can get 37.5mb download speed with ping on 23 which is awesome but on my ipad 4 I'm getting 14mb speeds which isn't right so I be doing more tests tonight I will keep you updated. Not tried the Ipad air yet but its seems to work fine so will do speed tests on them all later on :-)

My iPad 2 is extremely slow via wifi. It was bad when I first installed iOS 8, but now it's horrible with the latest update. It's not the internet connection (works fine with all other devices in the house, including my husband's iPad Mini that he did NOT update to iOS 8 at all). Overall, my iPad 2 is much slower to respond and choppy, lag with typing, etc. Apple needs to provide us the ability to go back to iOS 7 for those of us who want to. Not happy.

II have an ipad 2 3g,and IOS8 robbed me of my 3g connection. I tried just about everything and i'm pleased to say that 8.1 has solved that at least. I still have issues with Safari being unresponsive, the ipad being slow to load apps (2-3 seconds for email, for example) and the odd crashing app...i used to use the ipad as my laptop replacement, but given these frustrations, I think that's over....

To be disappointed in iOS 8.1 ... Apple would have had to introduce more bugs in this revision of iOS 8.1 than it fixes ... LOL ...

In other words, these revision contain a variety of bug fixes and are NOT a major upgrade (like going from iOS 7 to iOS 8 is). We're already past the major update stage, and thus we are in the stage of fixing a variety of bugs, over iOS 8.1, then 8.2 and 8.3 (the latter two which are already reported as showing up as being tested on the Internet).

My ipad 4 is as far as I can tell ruined after trying to apply this update.

Its stuck in a bootloop scenario (black screen white logo no progress bar etc...i made a thread about it elsewhere) that I have tried hard to get out of. I have done the process of plugging into itunes, recovery mode and resetting multiple times. I was up all night last night admitting defeat at 6am to get some sleep. I am utterly heartbroken and still looking for answers. My 4S is not updated to 8.1 as right now I don't trust anything. I have never had any issues with updates ever like this. I am looking around here to see how many others have had issues like this. I think my case is just one of a tiny few. Not sure what the problem is but it may not be fixable according to some threads I have read. This isnt just ios 8.1, this seems to have happened at various times on various devices in the past for people.

Just played around with an iPad Air 1 and iPad Mini 2 at an Apple store. Both had iOS 8.1 installed. There was lag when closing tabs in Safari, and when opening folders on the home screen on both devices. Heck, even the iPhone 6 Plus lags when closing tabs in Safari (in landscape view).

My trusty iPad Mini 2 is staying on iOS 7.1.2. If this continues, I guess it will never see iOS 8 or higher.

After upgrading to 8.1 on my iPhone 5s, I'm getting a VERY annoying occurrence with the Messages functionality.

  • When the lock screen is engaged, sliding the message to the left and selecting Reply brings up the cursor in the reply box, but no keyboard.
  • When receiving a text notification, sliding the text message down to reply brings up the cursor in the reply box, but no keyboard.

In both cases, I can't get the keyboard to come up and have to go over to the Message application to reply.

I updated to iOS 8.1 on iPad 2 and performance is improved since iOS 8.0.2... And whats more, my iPad NOW SUPPORTS HANDOFF... How is that possible? I thought it should run only on BT 4.0 but today, my girlfriend called me from her nokia on my iPhone 5 and I could pick it up and talked to her normally from my iPad 2...

Edit: SMS works as well, tested...

One can be quite pleased that iOS 8.1 has indeed fixed SOME of the bugs in iOS 8, and yet still be very disappointed that one's iPad 2 was MUCH faster and smoother functioning using iOS 7.1.2. I've been very objective in my assessment of each upgrade in order to provide other users with accurate, unbiased information for helping them make a decision on how to proceed (or not to proceed) with each upgrade.

My advice to anyone who still has iOS 7.1.2 on their iPad 2 is unequivocally to NOT upgrade to iOS 8.1. Perhaps Apple will indeed resolve all the bugs in a subsequent upgrade, but that is not yet the case.
