text message forwarding code note appearing on other device

I just updated my iphone 5s and ipad 4 to 8.1. I go to turn on Text Message Forwarding on my iphone and the iPad is listed. I put the slider to on and a pop up comes up saying to enter the verification code shown on my iPad. No code ever shows on my iPad. I have a few iPads, so to make sure I don't have two iPads named incorrectly, I changed the name of my iPad and the new name appears in the messaging app on the phone under the Text Message Forwarding panel. So it is the right iPad and it sees it, why no verification code?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1, Ipad 4 running iOS 8.1 also

Same issue here. I am using an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1) and am MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012, OS X Yosemite).

Both my iphone and ipad are set to 'When Using App' in the location services for messaging. This is the only option other than never.

Thanks for all your responses I got it working! Not sure what setting permitted to work but I added an iCloud email to my iMessages and also my location settings allowed for Wi-Fi networking

I finally got the code to appear by turning iMessage off and then on again in the iOS Messages settings.

I had this same problem. Go to message settings and enable your Apple ID to send & received messages on both the iPad and iPhone and for me it popped right up. Hope it helps!

I went to settings>icloud>share my location. Then I made sure it was all on, then I was able to get the code.

Same problem here---forwarding code note appearing on other device. Checked email address of my iCloud account on both macbook and iPhone, they are the same, but still not working.

What worked for me:

ensuring that both phone number and iCloud account was selected (check-marked) in both messages apps in preferences i.e. phone and mac

I Just upgraded and took a guess at what code it might be. It was the 4 digit code that you enter when your iPad has been idle. It was never displayed anywhere. But, the 4 digit code worked.
