text message forwarding code does not show up

Ipad Iphone 8.1 Mac Mini Yosemite. All of them on the same wireless network as required. Activate test message forwarding on phone, request code, no code shows on wither device & I can't find detailed instructions.

How when & where is this code displayed?

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Here's how I fixed it:

  1. Sign out of icloud on my iPhone
  2. Sign in to icloud on my iPhone
  3. Turn off iMessage on iPhone
  4. Turn on iMessage on iPhone
  5. Get dialog on my Mac that an iPhone is using iMessage
  6. Go to text message forwarding on my iPhone and turn it on for the computer I'm using
  7. Wait a few seconds
  8. Dialog shows up

Been without text message forwarding for many months. Good to have it back.

Here's my experience with this issue:

You do not have to have your various email addresses selected. (I leave mine un-checked so that folks are not starting multiple iMessage conversations with me accidentally, one with my phone number, one with my email, etc.)

You'll need to go into your Message settings on your iPhone, and even if iMessage is turned on, scroll down to 'Send & Receive' and sign out/in to your Apple ID. Mine didn't show as signed-in even though I had been receiving messages just fine prior to attempting to pair with my Mac.

Hope this helps.
