Its problem with Airtel, switch your sim to vodafone or other network which doesn't have LTE and you will have the toggles as soon as sim card is recognized. U needn't reset anything.

I to have same problem with Airtel in Bangalore.

The only solution is to swap to a older 2g sim.

You're correct. It is supposed to be adjusted in 8.1.

Try rebooting your phone and see if the option is available after your phone comes back up. Usually anything cellular related requires a reboot.

Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time. Keep holding until you see the Apple Logo, then let go of both buttons and your phone will restart. You won't lose any data or settings.

Changes are the toggle will appear when your phone backs up.

So in the UK I'm on Vodafone UK with a iPhone 6 and a 4G (LTE) plan and I only have the option to disable 4G not the new option to change to 2G, 3G or 4G. My colleagues iPhone 5 is also on Vodafone with a 3G plan and he does have the new menu. Another colleague has an iPhone 5S on 02 with 4G, and his is also the old menu. The only thing that is different are our plans, 4G plans to 3G plan. Could this really be the difference? Seems stupid if it is as where we travel there is no 4G or 3G so that's why we need the 2G option like in the older generations. We can turn Data off entirely which then forces the handsets to use 2G for Voice and texts, so this looks like the only possible way around it until Apple comes up with a better upgrade in 8.1.1

Hey people I'm a Airtel postpaid user. I was also banging my head to and fro since I didn't find that toggle option which apple's ios8.1 had addressed. After taking a deep breath I just went into Airtel website and there found an option to write mail to care people, though its limited text box nevertheless we can write vital info. I had expressed my grievance regarding this toggle and they rang up to my no# with in 2hours. Initially its rocket science to them but when the guy kept me on hold got enlightened by someone else perhaps some service specialist and asked me to send my iPhones invoice(bill) and IMEI no. to unlock that feature from them. After that I wrote a mail concerning and scanned my invoice along with imei# . I received their acknowledgement saying we are on task escalation and let you know after its done.

I'm eagerly waiting for solution.

One more thing I have an idea sim as well; the moment I insert into iPhone it immediately shows that "voice" option where you can toggle 3G,2G, Lte.

I affirm this issue as completely service specific. Further I have noticied few airtel user with iPhone 5 got this option on the spot.

Regards.

ALL,

IT SEEMS THIS OPTION IS AVAILABLE ONLY FOR THE ONES WHO SEE LTE IN THEIR STATUS BAR, RATHER THAN 4G.

I'M CONNECTED TO A CARRIER AND HAVE 4G OPTION WITH AN ON/OFF TOGGLE. MY WIFE IS CONNECTED TO A CARRIER WHO SHOWS LTE AND SHE HAS THE OPTION TO SWITCH BETWEEN LTE/3G/2G, JUST LIKE APPLE STATES IN THE RELEASE NOTES OF IOS 8.1.

NOTICE APPLE STATES IT ALLOWS SWITCHING BETWEEN LTE/3G/2G, RATHER THAN 4G/3G/2G.

NOT SURE WHY THE DIFFERENCE. PERHAPS A BUG.

Hello Everyone,

In India very few cities have LTE and the existing 3G coverage is not very good. So, to save battery and also for the obvious reason of getting a good reception on your phone we tend to stay on 2G and switch on enable 3G whenever required. This is how it went on for me:

1. This is my phone's config initially before iOS 8:

Model: iPhone 5

Carrier: Airtel

iOS Version: iOS 7.0.2

Carrier Version: Airtel 16.0

Enable 3G toggle: Available

2. After upgrading to iOS 8.0/8.0.2:

Model: iPhone 5

Carrier: Airtel

iOS Version: iOS 8.0.2

Carrier Version: Airtel 17.0

Enable 3G toggle: Replaced with Enable LTE toggle

3. After upgrading to iOS 8.1:

Model: iPhone 5

Carrier: Airtel
iOS Version: iOS 8.1

Carrier Version: Airtel 18.0

Enable 3G toggle: Replaced with list which enables the users to choose between 2G, 3G or LTE.

So, after upgrading to iOS 8.1 I am able to go back to 2G. I did hear from some users on Re: Getting 3G toggle back in iOS 8 - Solved

that this is not working for iPhone 6. I believe this has got to do something with the carrier update or an issue with intalling the iOS update. Apple should give an update if there is an issue with iOS 8.

Some users are posting here that this issue has got nothing to do with carrier but with iOS or Apple because they are able to see the option of selecting 2G/3G/LTE on their Nokia/Android/Blackberry devices. While this is true for rest of the devices it is not for iPhone. For iPhone this is very much dependent on the carrier version because that is how it works with iPhones. The carrier update decides if the toggle should be enabled or not. Weird and sad but true.

Thanks,

Rajeev.
