Amazon.com Rewards card (Visa issued by Chase) not supported by Apple Pay?

Is it just me or is this working as intended?

I got the same answer, but from Chase. I called the number on the back of my card and hit 0 and talked to the guy. He said that unfortunately they have decided (Chase) to not support Apple Day on launch day, but will at some point. I asked when, and asked are we looking at a week? a month? 3 months? He responded with saying that they aren't sure. He then said that they have many other cards that he could sign me up for like the Chase freedom card, that are compatible with Apple Pay. I told him that I am not going to buy into another card just because of some company dispute, and that I will most likely be canceling my Amazon card soon if they cannot make this happen. To that he responded simply, well I'm sorry to hear that sir.

All that to say, either Apple, Chase or Amazon will have to cave, because one of them, if not all, is going to lose business from a lot of people. Like someone else posted, when companies fight, the customer always loses.

Bank of America cards should work. B of A just emailed me to tell me so. And they also just announced a new rewards card.

Indeed they do. In fact, I've already set up Apple Pay with my Bank of America Cash Rewards Card. I get a lot of money back from BofA with this card, which I can use anywhere I want including Amazon!

How is that Apple is going to have to cave? Do you really think Apple is going to throw in the towel and give up? It's Chase and Amazon that doesn't want to install the terminals for Apple Pay to work. They have their own agenda. It is customer demand, or lack thereof, that will sway Chase and Amazon one way or the other.

It's individual merchants that install the terminals. If a merchant hasn't installed the required terminal Apple Pay won't be usable, even if your card is enrolled. And, has already been pointed out, Chase Visa cards do work; it's some affinity cards (so far Amazon and United Airlines) that don't. And that is the option of the affinity partner, not Chase.

Actually, I don't think it "Chase" necessarily. Out of the blocks, store branded cards won't be supported. Amazon's card would be considered store branded. With that said, I just joined Costco two weeks ago and signed up for a free American Express card which doubles as my Costco ID. They have a program similar to Amazon except that you get a check in the mail instead of Amazon gift cards. That card worked flawlessly when adding it to Apple Pay. I plan to try using it tomorrow. I'm anxious to find out if the retailer needs to accept Amex or just Apple Pay. Since Apple is handling the transaction and creating a temporary card number, it is possible that I can use that Amex card via Apple Pay at a place that doesn't typically handle Amex.

I also added a B of A card that was scheduled to expire in January. Since I haven't used the card in at least a year or two, I had to call BofA so they could verify the information.

I also called Chase customer service. The rep said they were "working on it and would send a notification when it was ready to work with Apple Pay." No timeline available. I stated I planed to pay off the card (I pay off every month) and start using one of my other cards ready to work with Apple Pay today. Though they don't make a penny on me from interest rates, I am a very big customer so should be profitable based on the fees they charge merchants.

Yep, this is really disappointing. I have three cards that work with Apple Pay but I dint regularly use any of them. I only keep them because I have thr longest history with them and they have high limits in case I need to make s larger than normal purchase. I use my Discover as my main card and my Amazon Visa for Amazon and anyone that doesn't take Discover. I was banking on the Amazon card being my main Apple Pay one since I knew Discover woulfnt work, but now I can't. I guess I'll have to start using one of the others again. On a positive note, I tried the system this afternoon and aside from confusing the woman at McDonald's, it worked very well.

Apple is NOT handling the transaction. The number is assigned by the card issuer and the phone just pretends to be a card. The store system has no idea you're using a phone and not the card. That said, I have never seen a store that accepts NFC payments buy not AMEX. My AMEX is the only card I have with a chip and I've used it everywhere I've ever seen a contactless reader.

In case anyone is interested, this is the response I received via email from Amazon when enquiring about Apple Pay.
