FaceTime making strange clicking sound since OS X 10.10

this happens to me often, the only fix i found is to keep garageband open. If the crackling happens when you get an FT call, go to Garageband Preferences> then go to Audio/Midi> then under output device select "soundflower 16", once garageband changes the audio output, change it back to "Built in Output"

That should fix it, at least it does for me. I have no idea what causes this problem, ive just been frustrated so many times that I've tried absolutely everything and this is the only fix i've found.

tested 10.10.5 that was working fine for a day or two of testing. and just updated to 10.11. everything working perfect right now! i can even plug in headphones while using facetime and unplug them again and the audio driver still works. hoping that they actually fixed this problem that according to apple never existed

I think you are right on the money. I actually found this post because I am having the same problem on my Early 2011 MBP. I've been trying to figure it out for months. I do a lot of audio production and this problem is surfacing in all applications (even after clean install) as well as at boot. I can't figure it out. I've done clean install with mavericks, yosemite, and El Capitan, and the problem won't go away. I am trying to figure out if it has something to do with a bad SATA cable to my hard drive as I am also getting corrupted and misread audio files left and right. Hardware test passes everything though. Also considered the possibility of a virus or rootkit changing my settings whenever it feel like. I dunno. Anyone figure this out? Apple says nothing is wrong, but then again, apple has been sucking since they killed snow leopard, or even mountain lion for that matter.

Yes sir. I share the exact same sentiments. Apple is no longer about the end user. Customer care has gone down the tubes. Genius's don't listen to you anymore and most of them don't have a clue in the first place. I hate windows, however, I actually here genuinely good things about windows 10. I hear its kind of like the snow leopard of windows.

my girlfriend has the iphone 7 with verizon and i have the iphone 7 plus with tmobile and it only makes the weird noise when she tries to face time me but when i facetime her it sounds clear with no pops or clicking noises so i assume its the service provider

Hi, it seems the same issue. However I have such annoying loud noise while facetime is calling that is barely confusing me. And it continues after the number is called and person picked up the phone.

I have the exact same issue. At first, I couldn't even hear the person on the other end but the "popping noise"

2nd repair, issue persists. I'm still running Windows 8.1 as a workaround.

This is definitely my last Apple Mac computer.

I just talked to the live chat support, brought this to their attention. As I was told they are going check this out and fix that as soon as possible

same issue! I noticed it with the new OS.

Well, I just solved it... by rebooting. Afte rthe reboot everything worked fine, no echo, no strange plopping.
