FaceTime making strange clicking sound since OS X 10.10

Same issue here. It's definitely made me question Apple's reliability, given that I've had problems with my iPhone as well. Looks like I might be switching back to Windows and trying out an Android phone when my current contract expires. By the way... it's an early 2011 MacBook Pro.

I had been experiencing this previously with OS 10.10, but it had resolved for a couple months, and came back today.

Only thing that I can attribute it to was installing the 10.10.3 update over the weekend.

I have this problem on my rMBP with Yosemite 10.10.3 (14D136), and it's been present for a couple of months. Facetime connects, but there's no sound, and I get a popping in the speakers after hanging up.

The number of little things wrong with Yosemite is simply astounding.

This problem continues to affect my computer. I have the latest Public Beta (10.10.4) installed, so that didn't address the issue either. I also sent yet another feedback to Apple using Feedback Assistant, which I don't think they follow-up on anyway. So, it looks like Apple is going to ignore this issue.

Next thing I might try, is sending an email to the editors of some of the Apple tech blogs like OS X Daily, 9to5 Mac, Macworld, MacLife, etc and ask if they've seen this issue. Perhaps they may have insight or bring attention to the problem in a way that this forum and Apple's Feedback Assistant apparently doesn't do.

At this point I would strongly consider reverting back to Mavericks, but then again there's that root escalation bug which Yosemite may or may not have actually fixed.

WOW.... Apple has really dropped the ball with their operating system QC. I bet the old man is spinning in his grave.

Update.

So the logic board replacement obviously did nothing but Apple is insistent on replacing the speakers on this machine. The repair is being offered to me for free so I'm out nothing but time, efficiency, and gas.

Has anyone had their speakers replaced for this issue? If so, I'm curious if that was indeed a "fix" for overall audio problems on the Early 2011 MacBook Pro.

I've had ZERO issues with audio in Windows 8.1 (via Boot Camp) on the same machine.

I've been having the audio dropout issued using FT for a few months now, but on any device, including iOS. Only9 my audio drops out (other person can't hear me), but video is perfectly clear and I can see/hear the other person fine. Can't be bandwidth since video looks great.

I have MBP mid 2010 15" I have similar problem that sometime they can't hear me and I can't hear them, just a tick noise, video works with no problem. To fix I need to plug either headphones or speaker. I have since I installed Yosemite Beta, as far as I can remember.

No issues if I use skype.

MBA late 2008. Same issues since Yosemite. Running 10.10.3

I used to love this machine and aside from this and the random (unrecoverable without hard reboot) freezing, it has never let me down. Guess I'm going back to Mavericks...

So this evening I was happily listening to music through iTunes when I decided to FaceTime my son... The audio started clicking from that point on and wouldn't work again until I rebooted. I'm no expert but this doesn't seem like a hardware issue.

I am having the exact same problem but I found a work around for it. If you open iTunes and play music with the volume all the way down FaceTime works fine. Just make sure you turn down iTunes volume and not the master volume. Hope this helps guys! Good luck!!

Still broken here despite numerous restarts, resetting PRAM, and the like.

FaceTime also won't recognize my external camera/microphone even though it shows up in "About This Mac" and works fine in Photo Booth.

Astounding.

Maybe I should start learning sign language?

I am also having this problem with Facetime on my older MacBook Pro. Usually a reboot will fix it, but it is very annoying. It is definitely a software problem. I had no issues with Facetime while running Mountain Lion. It has only occurred since I installed Yosemite.

Same issue here. MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011. Audio output is broken after FaceTime call. Only reboot solves the issue until next call.

I wonder how many replies this thread needs until Apple get a move on.

So, I think I may have found a solution. I had the same clicking noises, etc in the microphone. Restarts *sometimes* solved the problem for a bit, but never fixed for good. Tried all the suggestions on here and other places to no avail. Today, I did a clean install of Yosemite because of some other issues I was having, and boom, no more FaceTime problems.

Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15" (Purchased early 2012) Only issue I am having is the popping noise (noticed only when using Facetime.)

I have tried wiping the system and installing a fresh copy of Yosemite with no affect.
