FaceTime making strange clicking sound since OS X 10.10

Hi everyone,

I'll make it short. I am running an early 2011 - 13" MBP with 8gb ram, 500gb hdd, and OS X 10.10. Maybe I haven't been phrasing my issue correctly in google, but I may have a unique problem: as of updating my Mac to OS X 10.10, I am experiencing an issue with FaceTime video calls or voice calls (using FaceTime audio or the iPhone handoff feature) where all I can hear is a strange clicking sound, like static. The other person can hear me fine and I can see them fine if on FaceTime video, but I can't hear them.

I've tried checking my sound and microphone inputs/outputs before, during, and after the calls, and everything remains unchanged. The sound on every other app and in iTunes works just fine and I can hear people just fine if I have an external bluetooth speaker connected, but when using the Mac's sound output, I get the crackling sound. Please advise.

YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS. I almost thought of having the “I am leaving you” conversation with my girlfriend thinking she was getting pounded by someone else while we were on FaceTime. WHY IS THIS ISSUE A THING!!!

I'm not sure but, of what I read, it seems that problem is only on MBP early 2011 and before... Am I right ??

In fact my friend has a MBP late 2011 and no problem. And it seems that all of guys on this thread have a MBP early 2011 or before. If anybody has a more recent MBP, can he/she posts ?!

Laul - No idea what help you're providing here. I can give you a whole list of machines that AREN'T affected.

Help would be more justification of machines which ARE having issues.

On this - or another - thread, people with late-2011 MBP's are experiencing the clicking noise.

MY BELIEF (hypothesis) is that when Apple "crippled" Continuity on non-BT 4.0 / LE Macs, they ended up f'ing up FaceTime.

It's the same experience - clicking or popping noise.

Hello to all!

I do ave a late Macbook Pro 2011 with the same problem. Hope this explains that this is not a single type of machine problem.

Same issue here. Lat 2011 MBP. FaceTime was working fine before Yosemite, now, same as all have reported. Severe cracking and other person seems like on mute. They can hear me, I can't hear them.

Updated to 10.10.1 last night and working fine now, MBP 13" late 2011

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) OS X 10.10 - Same issue, random and very annoying... I had this for a while, even before Yosemite update. Have we got a fix yet?
