I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

And Apple isn't admitting to the problem as evidenced by several phone calls to support. They refuse to acknowledge others are having this problem.

A lot of the frontline people won't know the overall statistics, in other words they are not supplied with them. So, you'll hear what that one person knows just from his own calls. If he or she is not familiar with the issue from their own calls, that's exactly what you'll hear from them. When you give them an issue, they're searching the database to come up with some answers. But, once you get beyond the front line people and if you escalate up, then you'll hear from some people who may have more "personal experience" on the issue (and then again, maybe not).

This is not a refusal to acknowledge, it's that they don't deal in statistics there, but only finding a solution for you. In other words it does not matter in the least whether these tech support people have "statistics" about the overall situation, because it's not relevant to them finding a solution for you ... just like the statistics are NOT RELEVANT to someone getting a solution here either.

As a company, why host a community support blog if you don't monitor it and respond to your customer's issues.

Apple hosts it for "users helping other users" and what you get here has absolutely nothing to do with Apple. Apple officially tracks issues for problems on their Apple Support channels. If you're asking why Apple is so nice to host a site for users, that's beyond the scope of what this forum is about.

Or let us know a fix is in progress?

SO ... you're asking why Apple doesn't do what it has never done, huh? It never discusses these things to the public or in a news conference to the Media ... NEVER. If you want to know for yourself what is going on ahead of time, join the developers group and you'll get some advanced notice ... BUT ... you have to agree to a NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT if you join that community and you will be prevented from talking about ANYTHING you know from the Developers area at Apple.

Actually Apple has confirmed there is an issue. Their aknowledgement comes through the release of beta 8.1.1 supposedly intended to correct performance issues currently being encountered by users. When 8.1.1 will be released to the public is still not known.

My wife's iPad 2 and my iPhone 4s both work great. No lagging problems, no safari page freezes, no typing issues at all. But then they are both running IOS 7.1.2 !! My iPad 2 with IOS 8 is a completely different story.

Are you still talking about helping users when you've got zero points? You would be a whole lot more credible if you got about 1000 points under your belt ... then we would see that other users actually rewarded you by giving you points. But from your present status, you don't appear to know how to give other users any solutions for their problem issues!

BTW- I can see that he's doing just the same on other forums and the users there are just as upset with his petty sadism!

It's those other forums where the users thank me for solving some of their issues. You ought to try it ... go to a bunch of other threads to help other users ... :-) ...

I would love to have some more points for helping someone. But for the issues at hand there isn't any help a user can provide. It has to come from Apple In the form of an update or admitting iPad2 has no business running IOS 8 and letting us go back to IOS 7. ST has been a member here for 10 years to amass 1500 points. I have been here about two months and have received 5 points and have seen him get a total of 60ish points. If I can get a few more points I will match his daily average. lol.

OOnly Apple management know the extent of this problem and they will keep quiet to protect the Apple share price and reputation. However I do know the following......

i Have tested eight 8.1 devices, including an out of the box iPad mini, they ALL have the same serious problems. This is a clear indication that the problem is not limited to a tiny minority.it is statistically almost impossible for eight out of eight devices to display the same issues if they were in a tiny minority in millions.they are all16 gb so maybe a factor.

let us hope the next release fixes the problem, otherwise it's bye bye Apple.

i Have also spoken to three resellers who confirm same issues with current stock.

You know ... not everyone is cut out for doing this help thing on this users's forum. It's not so easy, and it's definitely a challenge. And yes, I've been here for that long, but I haven't been doing the help routine for that long. What it takes is covering a lot of different threads, in which you might talk to 20 people and only one of those results in some points awarded. I think it's good for me to be aware of these things and I've taught classes before in using Apple products, and have been in User Groups when they were a lot more popular than now. I think Apple makes great products and is the best company out there in its field and I'm glad to get the right information out there on how to use their products.

But, I've seen that there is. I know not all people are helped by just one solution, however many users are. And so, there does remain a small group (compared to the overall user base) who still have lingering problems. I still promote people doing the fixes suggested, because a user never knows ahead of time what fix will help them.

What issues did they all have? Were they all A5 processors? There are definitely issues with this iOS release. There have been issues with every iOS release - just do a search. It would be good to try and find the common denominator here. I have a friend with an Air 2 and he has no problems. Is it limited to devices that operate in 512 Meg of RAM? My iPhone 6 has no problems. And deleting the FB App has made my iPad Mini useful again. i am using it to post this. So... let's all start comparing notes rather than backbiting and whining about Apple. Star Traveler is right - Apple never admits anything... They simply fix it as soon as they can and move on. I am not 100% sure this one is all Apple. Deleting Facebook helped me. I could see it right away in the way memory is managed. So, let's try and help.

Star Traveler, I am just going to come out and say it... Get a life! Seriously, you must have more time on your hands than anyone in the world. I picture you sitting there in a filthy gross bean bag chair, dirty t-shirt, unshaven, slobbering on yourself eating Cheetos, waiting for each and every response. For real, shut up! No one wants you here anymore, so go away!

Nov 16, 2014 7:51 PM in response to accentaudio

Well said, accent.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again.

Star Traveller is deliberately trolling level 1 users who cannot report his inflammtory posts. He repeatedly breaks forum rules but gets away with it. I respect Apple for respecting his right to free speech so much they'll let him irritate customers who are already frustrated. Just ignore him guys. He's a pest, and a troll, and every time you try to reason with him you will only get more of his flames.

remember that trolls have a right to free speech too, and the chances are very real that it's some 12 year old you're trying to reason with. You'll get nowhere.

How many many level one users can ST leave inflammatory comments with before a moderator will act? The answer is there is no limit, so do what I do: if you see his name on a post skip over it. He isn't helping anyone but himself.

It would be great if we could actually verify this. It might explain why some people have isses and some don't.

This very same type of thing was shown to be the case with the Wall Street Journal app. It caused a lot of people big problems! They were amazed when all problems went away when deleting that app. Now, even though a whole lot of people found out that the WSJ app was the problem, there were a few who didn't find this to be the problem.

SO ... that shows that there can be a VARIETY of issues and that there is not just ONE solution. There is no "magic bullet" for problems in that a person can say that "this one thing is everyone's problem". That means people just have to check it out for themselves, and that's "troubleshooting" ... :-) ...

And what problem one app can have and how it can cause overall problems with the iPad ... you'll find that ANOTHER APP can do the same thing!

I think you're "on to something" here! Good work!

For the benefit of those members who've recently joined this thread and are trying to make sense of all of these shenanigans -

This forum is pretty much split between those members who are suffering real issues with Safari under iOS 8.x and those that believe it nothing to do with iOS 8.x

To those newly arrived members I say save yourselves a whole world of pain by not engaging in the conflict, but simply taking yourselves off to your nearest Apple Store and trying previously advised -

"How about this for a "solution"? -

Each and everyone of us go into any Apple Store and "test" Safari on the shop floor iPads and or iPhones running iOS 8.x - If those devices exhibit the same issues we're suffering from, I have and they DO, then have a member of staff, preferably a "Genius", take a look, and ask him/her to fix it right there and then!

That should get their attention!"

Sorry. The title of this thead is 'slow and freeze'. There are other issues such as 'copy and paste'. Yes, things were fine before iOS8 for the most part (except all those things that weren't - just do a search for iOS 7 problem, or iOS 6 problem). Some apps do things in an unorthodox way that isn't revealed until Apple changes the OS and takes away whatever the code writers were relying on. These apps can have issues releasing memory, or auditing your movements. I believe that is the case with the FB app, and why I am advocating removing it and rebooting. I know it solved simple cut and paste issues, as well as slowness issues and crashing problems. I still cannot accurately cut and paste a URL from Safari, but text level stuff works again.

On new machines, such as the Air2, problems are minimal or non-existent. My iPhone 6, for instance, has no issues at all with slowness or crashing, and I have detected no copy and paste issues (even with the FB app installed - different code, double the RAM on a 6), where my Mini was a virtual brick. Now my Mini works about 90% better. I am hoping iOS 8.1.1 solves the rest. I believe that it is not just iOS 8, but per usual when OSs evolve, a combination of things that are going to take a while to get worked out - particularly for machines that operate in 512 Meg of RAM.
