Apologies Bob (not Rob)

But this thread started life as "safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow" and was hijacked by a certain member to encompass all manner of off topic problems.

I stand by my assertion that Apple Store iPad Air 2s exhibit the same slow load, and other issues, in Safari under iOs 8.x, from the simple fact that I've seen it with my own eyes!

I posted a while back that I had suspicions it was related to Apple's "magnanimity" in opening up "Nitro" to third party developers - http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/03/ios-8-webkit-changes-finally-allow-all-apps-to-hav e-the-same-performance-as-safari/

Well, it sure did!

Thanks. I was just out at Apple this weekend looking at iPad Air2. I didn't notice any slowness (as I was experiencing on my Mini with a Roadrunner Broadband Extreme hookup at home). I almost bought the Air 2 there and then because of its seeming incredible speed. Not sure what could be the cause for the difference in your experience from mine. As I said, though, I have my fingers crossed for 8.1.1.

For those of you wondering, Apple DOES pay attention to these threads but does not participate directly. They are aware of when the conversations devolve, as this thread has done, and do police the threads. You will notice a few posts have been taken down.

MY advice - if you don't like the advice someone is giving, state your reasons once and refrain from the personal attacks. They don't help anyone.

Thanks,

Bob

I didn't buy it because of need vs resources. I REALLY like the smaller size of the iPad Mini and am ostensibly happy with it. My new iPhone 6 is like having greased lightning in my pocket. I wanted to see if that extended to the iPad Air 2 and can say that it was my experience that it does.

While deleting Facebook helped, I too am anxiously awaiting 8.1.1 to see what it does. The Mini is nowhere near the machine the iPhone 6 or Air 2 are. So, rather than knee jerk and spend money I'd prefer not to (going into the holidays) I'll take a wait and see approach.

But with the cool new Bamboo fine-line pressure sensitive stylus, a bigger surface is looking more attractive. Maybe I am awaiting the 12" iPad?

S.T. obviously doesn't think much of your advice Bob!

I think it’s evident to all that S.T., having been awarded points by other members, also believes he has somehow been awarded the right to sneer at those very members - To paraphrase, “Zero Pointers”, as he seems so fond of referring to us!

Anyway, in an effort to inject a little humour (not humor) into this slug-fest -

Same problem here. Recently I upgraded my ipad mini non-retina non-cellular from iOS 7..... to iOS 8.1 (NOT 8.0.1!) I heard that all the problems of 8.0 had been solved, so I tried it. I used iTunes for memory reasons, the latest verison of course. Unfortunately I have nothing but problems since. It started with the download being very slow and even stopping. At the end the whole system hung itself up, Nothing went forward anymore, even got a time-out. Causing me to switch the hole system off. Then of course my ipad was completely corrupted, so I started again. My provider said my line was fine and my other devices worked well. So bad internet connection not the problem.

After several attempts I got iOS 8.1 downloaded. However, nothing but problems. Hang-ups of apps, even the appstore hung itself up. Switch off and on sometimes helps, not always. Very slow Safari: It takes ages before the letters on the screen become sharp and readable, Also, when I google and get the page of answers, the screen does not respond to my touch. I did several renewals of the set-up, which caused the necessity of reinstalling all my languages and keyboards, saved places in apps etc. I get fed up with it.

I had just decided I wanted the iPad Air 2, but if this is the system by which Applethinks to convince customers of buying their new products, i.e. by making existing products unusable, I'll think again before buying an expensive device that will become useless by the next upgrade in a year or so.

As a last resort I am planning to reset my ipad mini to the factory settings and then try to download the backup I luckily made. Hope that helps. But it is not the way I used to deal withAppledownloads.

Anyone any other suggestion?

I am terribly disappointed and I do not dare do try to upgrade my iPhone, other iPAd mini or my mAc and MAcbook to the new OS.

Please - everyone. Clean slate starting right now. I don't police this forum. Star Traveler, you don't either. Every time you remind someone to stay on topic, you stray from topic. So, can we all please agree to simply stay on topic? If Star Traveler's (or anyone's) advice doesn't work, please post a response that indicates so and why you believe it doesn't.

But please, let's all stop trying to have the last word. It will be a much better forum if we can stop criticizing each other's posts, calling each other trolls, policing the threads, etc. If we are civil and stay on topic, the threads will police themselves. If someone strays off topic - ignore it. They will move on.

Let's start now. Ready? Go.

Thanks,

Bob

I'm a new member here in this forum, I don't have an Apple iPad and I'm typing this from a PC with running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11

Why I am posting is because, I read this whole thread from start to finish and just wanted to ask a couple questions to those experiencing difficulties with your apple devices, particularly the ipad (any generation) and ipad minis running iOS 8 or 8.1.

Here's my thinking on this issue., Is the iOS 8 or iOS8.1 operating system too large for the amount of RAM memory on your divices?

I have no knowledge of the amount of RAM Memory needed to run iOS 8.1 properly on Apple devices.

And what about data Storage capacity size on your devices, what size of storage do you have?

Knowing the RAM Memory sizes and data Storage sizes might be interesting to know. I say interesting because it could be an issue or maybe not.

I think it might be worth the effort to add your RAM memory size of your device running iOS 8.1 and its data Storage size.

I clicked on Rely in the last post on this thread, not intended to anyone in particular.
