Random Blue Screen Crash with 5S and iOS 8.1

Since upgrading to iOS 8.0 my iPhone 5S randomly gets blue screens and then crashes and goes into a loop of boot up, blue screen, reboot, blue screen, reboot...etc. My 5S did this again today when during my upgrade to iOS 8.1 via USB and I was forced to do a factory restore on it. The blue screen is still occurring after the restore and 8.1 upgrade. Is this a known issue? I was hoping this was going to get fixed with 8.1 but unfortunately, it doesn't look like it has.

5S Blue Screen Crash After iOS 8.1 Update

Problem: Since upgrading to iOS 8.0 my iPhone 5S randomly gets blue screens and then crashes and goes into a loop of boot up, blue screen, reboot, blue screen, reboot…etc. My 5S did this again today when during my upgrade to iOS 8.1 via USB and I was forced to do a factory restore on it. The blue screen is still occurring after the restore and 8.1 upgrade. Is this a known issue? I was hoping this was going to get fixed with 8.1 but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it has.

Solution: You will have to use Recovery Mode to restore your phone in cases like this. To place your phone in Recovery Mode follow the steps below. Make sure to back up your data first.

  • Turn off your device and leave it off.
  • Plug in your device’s USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
  • Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  • When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You’ll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Restore your phone using iTunes.

Don`t panic!!!

Do not erase your Iphone's!!!

I have Iphone 5s, had same problem with blue screen booting ...

I have updated Itunes, than downloaded 8.1 to PC from Itunes, Plugged Iphone to usb using, Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen, and updated from Itunes, Did not lost any information, everything works perfectly.

wait until itunes updates and downloads 8.1 to your PC, only after that you can start updating, no need to recover from back up.

best regards

Hi everyone,

I have had the same problem as many of you, my iPhone has had a total break down, it doesn't even turn on, just keeps going through the loop of the apple sign and the blue screen. Did the recommended DFU mode and connected it to my iTunes, at first it said it couldn't carry out my request, so I've tried again and now it saying it will take 11 hours to complete ?!?!, how long did everyone else's take ?. I'm praying this works.

The very same thing. iPhone 5s. And if on 8.0.1-8.0.2 iPhone kept crashing from time to time and always successfully reloading, on 8.1 it goes on the neverloading loop. Simple restore and restore from DFU didn't change a thing. Same as with 8.0 version i just gotta keep using only one app at a time, once i forget to close up other apps it takes tops 3 apps to cause immediate bluescreen reloading.

I catch my phone on the apple logo and force it to restart myself (pressing home and lock buttons) and it loads. If i do nothing loops seems to be infinite.

I READ THE WHOLE FORUM AND HERE'S HOW TO DO IT WITH THE 5S

IF YOU REGULARLY UPDATE YOUR INFO (I DO IT DAILY), YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS.

  1. PLUG THE PHONE INTO THE COMPUTER.
  2. GO INTO DFU MODE:
    A. HOLD DOWN POWER/HOME BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME FOR 10 SECONDS.
    B. LET GO OF THE POWER BUTTON WHILE STILL HOLDING DOWN THE HOME BUTTON FOR 10 MORE SECONDS.
    C. SUCCESS.
  3. IT SHOULD CONNECT TO ITUNES, SO CLICK RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS:
    D. ANOTHER WINDOW SHOULD POP UP THAT SAYS TO UPDATE AND RESTORE.
    E. CLICK IT.
  4. LEAVE ITUNES OPEN. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR COMPUTER. DO NOT GOOF OFF ON THE INTERNET. GO READ A BOOK. LET IT DO ITS WORK.
  5. VOILÀ.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Here is what fixed my looping blue screen crash without having to restore my phone to factory settings:

  • Turn off your phone
  • Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  • When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You’ll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  • Select Update
  • Ignore the message that the phone needs to be reset to factory default
  • Select Update again. My update took less than 10 minutes to complete.

I'm very disappointed with the series of failures with updates from Apple. Heads would have rolled with Jobs. These amateurish failures are simply unacceptable when you are paying a hefty premium to Apple so you don't have to deal with glitches common to Microsoft. The gap is narrowing.

I've tried both restoring and updating through DFU mode. It works for 30 min tops. Phone seems to be 'overwhelmed' with the usage. I've tried switching off data and not using a thing but calls during the day - zero restart loops. But once i start doing my regular routine with iphone it just can't handle any more say opened facebook, instagram and music at once and if at this very moment any kind of notification from other app arrives that's it - goes on constant reload.

On 8.0.1 i had several restarts with blue screen (irritating, but quick), and keeping it to 2 running apps seemed to do the trick while i was patiently waiting for 8.1. But no, it got only worse. Today i lost my phone for a whole hour - looping not reacting to my manual reloads.

Oh my God you guys I have an iPhone 5s too and the same problem occurred after I tried downloading iOS8!! Except it won't restart and go to a normal screen it I a constant blue screen and then white Apple with the black background after!! I tried restoring it but halfway through the process it says "no internet connection" which is complete bs because I have never had a problem with connection and my computer normally runs fine with connection except for when I need to restore my phone. I tried it on two different laptops, and I call customer service. They said that I should make an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store to get the phone completely restored or they will give me a new 5s on the spot. It seems like a fine solution, but on my phone I have the last conversation I ever had with my dad before he died the next day, and it will be really hard for me to let go off it... I wish there was another solution but the apple customer service said there was nOne. My suggesting is to just go to the Apple Store and demand amother free 5s or else you will continue to bad mouth their products. It typically works with other companies so why wouldn't it work with them?
