iOS 8.1 always in extended coverage

I updated to iOS 8.1 earlier today and ever since then I have been on "extended" coverage instead of verizon. I went to places that I go to every day and I never had verizon and it has been about 9 hours. I did a factory reset but that didn't work. How do I fix this? I don't want to be roaming all the time which is what it seems that it is.

Sorry I cant help with the 5 but I suggest calling Vzw and escalating to Tier 2 - Only ones that can help - although I was on with a tier 2 rep yesterday and they had me reinstall the 8.1 operating system twice once over the air and once on ITunes as it is a full wipe. And they did not know what the guy today knew, so as always with reps it depends on who ya get!! good luck

My LTE setting says "Voice and Data". I have toggled off and on about 5 times... the check is there. no problem..

After about 10-15 minutes of working on VERIZON, it goes right back to EXTENDED...

My wife has not updated hers to 8.1 (on my request) and hers never does it...

I called Verizon and I have been unable to speak to anyone who has a clue what I'm talking about. They have the same generic answers of "reset the phone", "network settings" etc...

When so many people are having the exact same problem (after google and twitter searches), it shouldn't be my job to seek out the solution. I'm going to sit back and wait for Verizon to acknowledge it and fix it. It is ridiculous.

Brandon. Keep in mind that you may be in a limited Vzw service area and or the cellular service providers have a stronger signal. If that is not it you may be inadvertently picking up a Network Extender (I pick up my neighbors and it took a day for me to realize it) if you live in close quarters it is quite possible. I had to leave my home and get a clear cellular signal. Now when I am in my house I get poor Vzw signal so depending on where I am in the house I'm either showing Verizone or extended. Extended being my neighbors network extender or other provider. If you live close to commercial buildings its possible to pick up networI extenders. Any verizon phone can accwas them and if you hear a shirt beep at the beginning of a call theN you know. Its most likept poor signal since your switching back and forth. Good luck

Missy, do you have a 5 or 6? If 6 contact Verizon to add the three feature codes

A) Advanced Calling 1.0 - Vzw Feature Code 81143

B) High Def Voice - Vzw Feature Code 81158

C) High Def Access - Vzw Feature Code 81186

You can also go online to your Verizon acct and select your device, turn off your phone - Online select change plan, scroll down and add the features, they cost 0.00, follow the prompts to save and approve your changes. wait a few min and turn on your phone. You may have to perform a hard reset by holding down home and power button until you see the apple then release and let phone reboot. If you have a 5 contact Verizon

I have been working with Apple and Verizon Senior Supervisors for the past week and a half. We have done everything and have come to the conclusion that we must wait for an update to fix the apparent bug issue. This is in extreme inconvenience but I want to assure you that being in "Extended Network Mode" is not necessarily a bad thing but I understand the frustration of not having your phone working to full potential.

I have the same problem, a Verizon 5s iPhone which worked perfectly until I downloaded the phone to the 8.1 update. From that moment on my phone has been on the extended network. I live in a large metro area with LTE complete coverage and I have not traveled out of the area. Prior to the update, my phone always said Verizon LTE. I have been to the Verizon store and the Apple store. Both thought I needed a new phone and Apple was awesome enough to replace my phone which was still in warranty. It worked for about 15 minutes before it switched to "Extended". Needless to say I was disappointed. The phone is having substantial battery drainage and I have noticed quite a difference in speed now compared to the LTE. I have spent hours talking to Verizon and Apple and resetting my phones multiple times and ways. Nothing has fixed it. I have called in the codes listed above to Verizon. They tried putting the codes on my phone but they will not work with the 5s only the 6. I am anxiously waiting for someone to resolve and fix this problem.
