No prompt for remembering log-in

I'm on several forums. Whenever I've gone to a new forum or website that requires a log-in, if I begin to type in a user name & password, I get a prompt that asks me if I want keychain to remember the password. Except for one forum, that is. The folks that run that forum have suggested that I delete their cookies and empty Safari's cache -- which I've done. But I still do not get the prompt that asks the keychain question. I thought I read somewhere that if this happens, it is a problem with the forum's setting. Is this true? Does anyone have any suggestions?

To the site admin:

I created a log-in name etc. Next prompt told me I'd receive an e-mail with a link. That was over an hour ago. Haven't received it yet.

Also, when I click on "log-out", nothing happens. Refreshed the page, still no response.

thought you would like to know.

I'm glad to find this site. Here in Hawaii growing Orchids is both an indoor and outdoor hobby.

Hi,
Thanks for registering!
I co-admin the site and the other admin is the one who authorizes new users, and he has not been online yet today (he's in the western part of the country also). I think that may be why you have not yet received the email. We just had to turn this sort of authorization on because we have been getting hit with a lot of spammers lately. I will forward your post above to John to let him know who you are and to authorize. I have no idea why you cannot log out. This is all a little over my head, I'm afraid!

What fun! It will be great to have another Mac user on this forum. I think you might be the first one from Hawaii. I'll notify the admin. about your post.

I've dreamed of living in Hawaii...

Here is part of the code on the log-in page for slippertalk:
<!-- login form -->
<form action="login.php" method="post" onsubmit="md5hash(vb loginpassword, vb loginmd5password, vb login_md5passwordutf, 0)">
<script type="text/javascript" src="clientscript/vbulletin_md5.js"></script>

And for another forum using the same software, in which my log-in name and password always appear:
<!-- login form -->
<form action="login.php?do=login" method="post" onsubmit="md5hash(vb loginpassword, vb loginmd5password, vb login_md5passwordutf, 0)">
<script type="text/javascript" src="clientscript/vbulletin_md5.js?v=361"></script>

Is the difference of any significance?

Yes, living in Hawaii has many benefits (warm weather, warm ocean, multitude of plants, year-round organic fruits/vegetables, dolphins, whales - you get the picture). The down-side is a minimum 5 hour airplane flight anywhere beyond the islands.

Don't know if the code you posted has any significance. I'm waiting for the admin. e-mail so I can test the log-in from my end. I'll post back when I get clearance.

Hi Ahmcd,

You are welcome, thank you for the site's address: )

I did intend to register. However it seem to not accept either my password
cap sensitive, yes I know, or the string of letters, incorrect I used my magnifier just in case, the email, it kept asking for a valid one, aww it is valid. So I sent an email. Something was just off.

This was on my PB os 10.4.7 Safari 2.0.4
Perhaps it is the new software you speak of. I will try again.

Okay, I just found this, which was set to .slippertalk.com
I changed it to blank, as suggested. See if that works, Dot?

Here's what the options say:

This option sets the domain on which the cookie is active. The most common reason to change this setting is that you have two different urls to your forum, i.e. example.com and forums.example.com. To allow users to stay logged into the forum if they visit via either url, you would set this to .example.com (note the domain begins with a dot.

Suggested valid values for Cookie Path are available in the drop-down menu opposite. If you have a good reason to want a different setting, tick the checkbox and enter the desired value in the box provided.

You most likely want to leave this setting blank as entering an invalid setting can leave you unable to login to your forum.

The log-in still doesn't function -- no keychain question. And when I log out/back in, it has to be manually typed.

But I did notice that the cookies now have www. in front of them as in all the other forums.

You may be on the right track. Please keep looking.

Before I tried logging in, I deleted cookies from previous visits. I also just now tried logging in with the stuff I entered manually into keychain, and then deleting that keychain and trying to login again. Still no keychain prompt, only manual login.

Hello to All,

I registered last night, auto login indeed did not work for me either.

When i logged out it messaged cookies were cleared i wondered if they are
somehow not being cleared, well one cookie without a date does stay behind the other 4 did clear.
I tried with the one cookie remaining, deleted as well as not deleted, same.

cookie left over->>website slippertalk.com name-bbsessionhash Secure expires - >No Date ........etc.......

no date seems normal other cookies are the same, for session.
So the problem seems to be the site, not a keychain issue on mac.
There is no info on the forum, in any of the autofill when check edit.
That indicates it is not being registered by the keychain though enter
as an internet Keychain.

I tried once more successful log in just no auto log in, now i see there
is a spammer that has joined the said forum, good grief !!!
There is a mention of possible log in issues, due to spammy.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks, a new forum member, will be buying my first ever.

To Eme and Hawaiian_Starman:

Thanks for registering on slippertalk. Eme, you seem to have the same problem as I do. Hawaiian_starman, I'm wondering if you've had any problems with login? If you do, then it seems to be an issue related to Macs and this forum's software. What is strange is that there are two other forums I belong to that use this same software (maybe different versions), but I've never had any problems with the other two, just this one. That's another reason I wonder if it isn't something in one of their settings.

It's a great forum, and of course feeds my addiction for slipper orchids. Maybe it will for you two, also?

I sure wish an Apple rep. would respond. We all seem to be at our wit's end for finding a solution.

Hawaiian_starman, I'm wondering if you've had any problems with login?

Same problem here. Keychain does not ask me if I want to retain my log-in information. So a manual log-in. Then, when I select "log-out", nothing happens. Posted this "bug" yesterday.

Something in the html coding creates these problems, hence, it's not an Apple problem, per se.

Hi Dorothy & all here,

Yes same problem, it just does not seem to register.
Does the site show in the autofill edits for any of you?

The site is neat, I like Lady slippers/ orchids. I have seen pink ones on
Walden pond & on the cape in Falmouth yellow ones. Knowledgeable on
said names , not!! Will, learn I hope.

We have to see where all this leads, i do not forsee a response
from Apple on this, the issue seems isolated to our forum; )
however one can never know.

failed the Direct Input, on both aforementioed checks for the login area.

Passed on HTML validation

Does this perhaps help the webmaster to rework that
that login area.

It does no work on Firefox either for me . Does it auto log you in ?
I thought maybe it is b/c Safari's picky about code.
