What is ambrosia audio? won't install

I just upgraded to yosemite and a message appeared that there was no support for ambrosia audio and the this is necessary for mac audio.

It asked permission to download and install and I said yes. When it said a restart was required to complete installation I hit restart. However, when I signed in to my Mac I got the SAME message that I needed to install Ambrosia audio. I repeated the process. What is going on and how do I fix it?

Hi,

Ambrosia audio is used by programs made by Ambrosia software. Some time before you have installed a program from Ambrosia and now you do not use it anymore, but it is still there.

  1. Search for everything that comes from "ambrosia", for instance with Spotlight or other third party search tool.
  2. If you have a program like Clean My Mac or AppCleaner, use it for deleting the Ambrosia software with all it's files. Ortherwise, delete the software manually by dragging it to the trash.
  3. Reboot
  4. If the problem persists, make sure that you have also deleted the programs from Ambrosia that are in /Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchDaemons and /Library/StartupItems and while you are at it check also /Library/Extensions and /Library/Audio and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
  5. Empty the Trash.
  6. Reboot.

I hope this helps.
