cannot add movie artwork after 12.0.1 update

I'm noticing when trying to edit Movie artwork, iTunes will not allow to load image files as artwork, since the update. Remains screen cap from random point. Any ideas?

I can't take credit, as I found the shortcut elsewhere, but try holding down the option key when selecting "get info". This will open up the info window that looks more akin to the iTunes 11 version (with all its requisite fields). Simply apply the artwork like you would have in iTunes 11 (I copied and pasted an image file from online to my imported mp4 movie). I tried this a number of times using the iTunes 12 version of the "get info" window and it would always look like it was trying to apply the artwork, but would then revert to a screen-cap from the movie, as you described.

The only way is to delete the movie from your itune library, re-add the folder from whereever it is, then you can apply artwork. Very lenghty just to change the artwork. For existing pre V12 movies in your library that are missing artwork, no other way.

They totally messed up the backward compatibility. Someone needs to teach Apple Engineering the concept of "regression testing".

I've not had any issues in a few weeks. First off, always make sure to do any editing by pushing "option," when you click Get Info. The boxes that open will look a slight bit different. And then it's always worked, except for <5... And each time, it's been a file which I think is locked or protected or something...regardless iTunes didn't play nice.

I've had that happen on a few others, and then the phantom movies that wouldn't play audio on ATV. But I've figured that one out. Mine have to be AAC 2ch.

Does anyone know exactly what the 2ch means? If I get new surround sound setup, will that switch it up?

Like others, I haven't had luck with the option key trick in 12.1. The same goes for deleting and re-importing the file, and other workarounds that helped in previous versions of iTunes. (I have had luck by saving the file in a lossy-ier format -- but to junk the music to preserve the artwork seems to have the priorities reversed.)

In my case, the artwork often "sticks" for a while, then mysteriously vanishes from certain (random) tracks -- the tracks then remain resistant to re-adding the artwork.

At this point I'm curious if anyone has had any luck -- even a third-party tag editor that embeds art in lossless files?

I am still having problems with adding artwork to my imported movies. Apple iTunes has never been without major problems and this new update is in-line with all of the previous editions. Why can't Apple create normalized easy to use simple iTunes products… no tricks or weird missing columns. I really wish I had artwork in my library 😢
