Save as dialog box hides behind the dock

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite, the 'save as' dialog box will partly hide behind the dock. I can't see the 'save' nor the 'cancel' button.

Now I don't want the dock to auto hide, nor do I want to make it so small I can hardly see the icons, because when I do either of that I can of course see the buttons. I can therefore only cancel by pressing escape. Since that is not really efficient working for me, this minor issue annoys me to no end.

I use Word for Mac 2011 and have never had any issues with it before. This also only happens when creating Word documents in print mode view (changing the view makes the issue go away but when I go back to print mode view - which I have always used, the buttons are hidden behind the dock again!) I would appreciate any help ...

So, I read one of the answers above but didn't understand it until one of the IT guys at work helped me today. Up at the top of the dialog box, on the right side of the "save as" box, there's an arrow that points up. (Actually, it's more of a carat and the IT guy thought it might be called the "disclosure triangle.") If you hit that once, you get sort of an abbreviated dialog box. If you hit it again, the dialog box gets bigger, but it doesn't extend below the dock. That solution doesn't stick, but at least it's an option...for now.

This has been driving me crazy ever since I upgraded to Yosemite. All my updates are current, I keep hoping one will fix it but it persists.

Yes, I can click the arrow twice, but then it pulls the top of the Word document up too high, off the screen. And it pulls up on the bottom of the document too, about an inch higher than the top of the doc. So I can finally see the Save As/Cancel buttons, but I can't see the toolbars on the top, and I have to resize the document after I've saved it. If I start Word in safe mode (shift while starting), then it doesn't do this. But I don't want to have to start in safe mode all the time.

I've tried trashing the normal file, the plist files, everything I can possibly find. It still happens.

I have exactly the same problem. It drives me crazy. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I am using a MacBook Air and have been using MS products for a long time without any problems. Last night I updated to Yosemite 10.10.3 and since then I noted the same problem as described in this treat started by Zweutse. When I use SAVE AS in any of the MS office products, the new window within the app falls outside the application. When I connect to a large monitor I can see the SAVE and CANCEL buttons BUT they fall outside the WORD window. I am unable to resize (upwards) SAVE AS window, only move it smaller horizontally Not vertically. I completely removed MS Office and then re-installed OS X and MS Office. Problem still the same. I called MS and they tell me to call Apple. Does anyone have any idea?

Here is the what worked for me. Shrink the dock by hovering the cursor on the top edge near the vertical divider between the apps and the trash until the cursor looks like a vertical white double sided arrow. Then drag downwards. The dock should then shrink to a tiny version of itself and you should now be able to access the Cancel and Save buttons on the popup dialog. To restore the dock, hover the mouse as before and drag upwards.

This is simple and worked perfectly.

To make it stick, just resize the box yourself once you have it back in the full position, and it will remember your sizing prefernces. This has been driving me crazy, and I am very grateful for the tio. Never would have thought to click that little up arrow.

To review

Click the little up arrow next to to the document title box

this will give you a mini save as box.

Click it again

this will give you the full size save as box

Resize the window manually to one that looks good on your screen by manipulating the corner.

Choose cancel or save

From now on, the save as window will open to your preferred size.

Thank you very much, BJMcBean.
