Mail threads are mixed up what do I do?

Good day all,

Since installing 10.9.5 My mail is mixing threads up (emails from different people about different topics are mixed up with other threads which are not related) Also the messages in the side bar are not matching what is in the email. Basically my emails are a mess. Please help.

Thanks

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Still happens to me on all computers. Sent a mail to bugreportersupport@apple.com because login on https://bugreport.apple.com/ wouldn't work either on newest OS X and Safari. Will probably migrate everything to Mailbox or possibly even Outlook over the weekend. It's a sad testament to recent trends when Microsoft software (on OS X no less) has become the "it just works" alternative to Apple software.

I think I might have just found a solution to this. Forgive me if I'm wrong!

Was having the same issue so went to Mail > Preferences from the toolbar and selected the Viewing tab. I had a checkbox called "Include related messages" checked. Unchecking that box appears to have solved the issue on my machine.

Hope this helps someone.

Ah, just noticed dutchdude31's already posted this solution above. Worked for me too!

Hi.

Ive got the same extra characters it in the source of my threads that are mixed up... Se example under. I assume Mail.app consider <>> to be a valid reference/identification and therefore shows them as a thread. 😟

Also Ive tried the following. Just so no one does the same 🙂

Exported mail thread.

Removed all extra symbols in the reference part. ( like >> ,> <, and things like that)

Removed original mails from mail.app

Removed mail cache

Rebuilt mailbox

imported the mails.

Didn't do any difference. Still mixed up. Don't know how they do the tread calculations, but apparently not only by the ref.

Hi, yep, just started happening for me too. It's infuriating. Only slightly less infuriating than the fact that this has clearly been going on for some time and yet Apple seems to be ignoring it?

Perhaps the earlier suggestion to write directly to Apple is a good one, since I'm pretty sure they've just left this whole "community support" thing to run itself a la Lord of the Flies.

Mail threads are mixed up what do I do?
