iPhotos has lost my Photos when upgrading to Yosemite

I lost 5 years of pictures when upgraded to Yosemite/Iphoto, but I think I solve my problem by launching iPhoto - file - switch to library - iPhoto library ( i chose this over the ones that said default or original) and it worked I got all my photos back, hope this will help because it's frustrating when you upgrade and then lose something important.

Kristian, I'm trying to follow your instructions:

1. Open Finder.

2. Go to Photos...don't see anything named Photos on the left sidebar, exactly how do I get to that location? Also, not sure if you mean using the Go command, or just browsing?

That should read Pictures...

By default your iphoto library is in your Pictures folder - there is no "photos" folder for user access in a standard system - and note that if you follow Kristin's instructions you will destroy your iphoto library rendering it unusable for any future purpose

So does this issue happen to everyone's iphoto when downloading Yosemite? I haven't upgraded because Im afraid I'll lose all my pictures but if I don't upgrade then I can't view my pictures.

The protection against losing your photos is a back up -and you should always have a back up.

Anybody know where the Photos-Library folder is located in Yosemite so that I can just copy it and have a backup of all my photos? Cannot find the answer to this anywhere.

Most Simple Back Up:

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.

Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.

Example of such apps: Chronosync- but there are many others. Search on MacUpdateor the App Store

I have followed these steps but it did not say 'Original' but 'Master' and yes, the photos were all there - unbelievable how an upgrade can do this! Very sad Apple, very disappointing!
