I can't edit the song title anymore in iTunes 12.0.1

Or am I missing something?

I usually would just click on the song and it would let me change the title of the song, now it's not doing anything.

Hi! I think the problem is with songs downloaded and that are sort of 'read only'.

First things first. I'm on Windows7, iPodtouch 4th gen, iOS 6. Latest iTunes 12.

on your windows folder, right click on the music file > Properties > Security Tab > Permissions for System Box > click on the Advanced button below it >

You'll see an entry that is 'Read' under Permissions category > double click that > check the box for Full Control and this will check all other boxes > click Ok or Apply > You'll see that there's now a new entry with "Full Control" labeled on it >

Click Apply, then Ok, then Apply, then Ok again.

Now, open your iTunes 12. Add your music file again. if it was still there, delete it from iTunes then add it back. >

You should be able to edit the Title, Artists name, genre, album cover, lyrics, etc when you click on and access the Get Info option when you right click the music file in iTunes.

I hope that helped. If there's any question please reply. I hope this will give me a notification on my email.

:: It worked for me. I'm a tinkerer and just plain curious. I was also a former Comcast, internet and phone support so, I hope I somehow help 🙂

I just found a fix for this that worked for me. 'Create Apple Lossless Version' of the song. The song WAS an MPEG Audio File. I found I cannot 'Get Info' (edit the info of the song in a playlist) of the MPEG, but I am able to for the Apple Lossless Version.

Easy to do from the playlist or library: For the 'Moves Like Jagger' song.

1. Right click song title , then choose 'Create Apple Lossless Version'. (Can't get a screen clip of that without the box disappearing, but just try it - 'Create Apple Lossless Version' is a little more than half way down the options.

2. Had to go to Library and sort by name to find both versions - iTunes didn't automatically put the Lossless version in my playlist, and you can't see what 'kind' (version) the file is if you search by name. So go to the library, click on the 'Name' column to sort by name. Now I can see both versions:

3. Next , right click the song here in the library or move the Lossless version to your playlist and right click, you will be able to edit. Note the difference below in the screen shots, the first one for the MPEG version and the second one for the 'Lossless' version. The Lossless version has the outlined boxes where you can edit. The MPEG version has no boxes; if you try to click to edit, nothing happens.
