Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA).

Hi everybody,

I would like a clarification on Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA). What is the difference and how can i specify that in the online order?

Does both models support both GSM and CDMA or not? I would like to use my phone to other EU countries so will my decision of GSM or CDMA affect coverage?

Thanks

iPad Air, iOS 8.0.2

Hi Peter,

thanks for your reply but I was not referring to ordering the phone from the US and apple.com.

In addition I do know the difference between GSM and CDMA and do not need to use google on this one.

My question is simple. From Apple.ie store I can order either Model A1586 (GSM) or Model A1586 (CDMA).

However nowhere in the online site it is specified how to select the GSM or the CDMA model.

Also having used the online support chat from Apple they claimed that both models support both CDMA and GSM which sounded strange.

So becuase I am going to pay approx 700 Euros, I would not want to end up with a phone that does not support the networks intended to use within Europe.

This is what I'm telling you. The CDMA iPhone 5 supports CDMA and is locked to Verizon CDMA in the US.

The same phone supports GSM in the rest of the world (outside the US). The CDMA phone has a SIM card.

I don't know what the specific phone you are looking for by that model number but I know the iPhone 5 works like a charm

Are you pretending to not understand or really do not understand?

1) I am in EU,

2) the model A1586 is sold in EU

3) I was always planning to buy from EU

4) The question only refers to that model which is also availble for the US

5) When I decided to post to the Apple online community I did so from the Apple Ireland web site but my question was posted here

Is that now clear enough even for you Peter?

The page you are referring to is just a general page describing the different bands the different iPhones can operate on. If you will order an iPhone in the Irish online Apple Store you will automatically get A1586 which supports both CDMA and GSM (I know it seems like there are two models, one of which supports GSM and the other supports CDMA, but in fact they are one and the same).

Why Apple communicates in this confusing way is unknown to me, in the past there where different devices for CDMA and GSM maybe that's the reason they communicate like they do now. But rest assured Apple Stores around the globe only stock iPhones that are usable in the country in which they are sold, so if in the future it changes to the situation before you will know you will get the right one once you have ordered at your national Apple Store.
