Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA).

Hi everybody,

I would like a clarification on Model A1586 (GSM) vs Model A1586 (CDMA). What is the difference and how can i specify that in the online order?

Does both models support both GSM and CDMA or not? I would like to use my phone to other EU countries so will my decision of GSM or CDMA affect coverage?

Thanks

iPad Air, iOS 8.0.2

Well that was a little silly to purchase an iPhone in the US for use in the UK.

This does not make any sense at all. You will not get 4G coverage in the UK on a US iPhone due to differences in frequency - it will work, but only on 3g.

Also, you would have done better to buy and GSM T-Mobile contract free phone rather than buying a Sprint phone.

Also remember that warranty for iPhone is country specific and not international, so if you have any problems with the phone, which I hope you don't, then you are looking at getting back on a plane to the US to sort it out.

I did buy my iPhone6 contract free but the us sprint version rather than the T-mobile version.

fully confident that i will get 4G in the UK. I would recommend the Everymac website which provides good detail in the Global/sprint A1586 model.

Peter Gillespie - It is an international warranty. I have bought all of my previous iPhones in the U.S. and on the 2 occasions that I have had to replace or get my iPhone fixed in London I have not had an issue with the warranty when I walk into the Apple Store in recent street. In fact the question about where the phone was from was not even brought up. To think that a Global company as large as Apple would not give global warranty's is ridiculous.

Extract from the iPhone warranty.

Apple reserves the right to change the method by which Apple may provide warranty service to you, and your Apple Product’s eligibility to receive a particular method of service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability and response times may vary according to country. You may be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the Apple Product cannot be serviced in the country it is in. If you seek service in a country that is not the original country of purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges. Where international service is available, Apple may repair or replace Apple Products and parts with comparable Apple Product and parts that comply with local standards.

NO. Warranty on the iPhone specifically IS NOT INTERNATIONAL and never has been and never will be.

We all know that Apple is a global company, but unfortunately, iPhones are not the same in all countries, which is why the warranty on them is not international.

Apple provides international warranty on other products, just not iPhones and normally, if you take a model of iPhone purchased in another country to a store in another country, they may refuse to help you, as if the phone needs replacing, they don't have the correct model.

You must just have got lucky with your experience, because this is not the experience of others and I can assure you that iPhone warranty is not international.

I am speaking from experience and from that experience it the warranty on the iPhone is international and always has been. This was also confirmed in the apple store in the US this week when I asked specifically about my new iPhone.

It is also confirmed in the apple website when you read about the iPhone website. Not sure why you are so adamant that it is not when it clearly is.

Europe quotes this

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict service for iPad and iPhone to the EEA and Switzerland. Only Apple or an AASP should perform service on iPhone or iPad products.

US this

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

Fact from current iPhone and iPad warranty documents ,US amd Europe

And Apple do restrict

You just got lucky

If you want proof you can search the forum for all of the posts from people howling because Apple refused to repair their iPhone in a different country than the one where it was purchased. Some of the posts get very nasty about it.

Yes, SOMETIMES an Apple store will repair a phone in a country other than the purchase country, but it's up to the individual buyer if they are willing to take that chance. Usually they don't, because each country only stocks the phones that are the model for that region, and Apple doesn't repair phones, they replace them. If there's no equivalent model there's no replacement. And yes, some of the complaints come from people who bought the phone in the US and can't get it fixed in Europe.

The only real exception is phones purchased in any EU country will be repaired in any other EU country. But they are all the same region, so this is not a problem.
